I think it would be cool if this became a reality, but if the EV push causes fuel to rise to astronomical prices, it may not matter anyway. Waste oil could be an option, but if fuel prices rise that high, people will start charging a lot for waste oil and there won’t be any benefit to that either. I’m not sure how valuable this tech is going to be- it might be too little too late.

This is really nothing new.

Same engine/different fuels goes back to late 60s-70s with some Internationals that had the 550 V8 Diesel that purportedly started life as a 549 gasoline engine. The gas version was also available with a propane carburetor.

The mid-70s Volkswagen Rabbit gas engine made the transition to a diesel as well.

True multifuel engines would be the Chrysler Turbine and whatever they powered the M35 military truck with.
