For those of you with a Uniden R7, the long awaited update came out that provides the GPS Lockout feature only found in the Escort. In addition, they enhanced the BSM filtering and a few other upgrades. Just completed my update and will take her out for a drive tomorrow.

Here's the changelog and then some detailed info about all the new features.

1. Auto mute memory is added. “Auto mute memory” shows on the screen for 2sec when a signal is auto locked out and saved in the memory.
2. The name of K Block Filter(24.199 +-5MHz) is changed to “K Block1 Filter” and new options(Weak/Mute) are added (on/weak/mute/off)

On(default) – Block all signals within 24.199 +-5MHz
  • Weak – Block weak signals only
  • Mute - 'Blocked' icon is displayed
  • Off - Filter disabled
3. New K Block2 Filter(24.168 +-2MHz) is added with the options (On/weak/mute/off). The default is On.
4. K band reactivity delay (K band gun with Quick trigger mode) is improved.
5. Arrow Display feature is improved to avoid changing the Arrow direction too frequently.
6. Alert distance options for Speed Camera Alert are changed. You can see the Alert distance options below when you set Speed Camera Alert to ON in the Menu.

v1.35 : 300m(1000ft), 600m(2000ft), 760m(2500ft), 900m(3000ft), Auto

7. The text “Bogey Tone” in the Menu is changed to “Ka Bogey Tone”.
8. Pass chime(one beep) is added to the POI alert. The R7 will announce a pass chime when the car passes the camera (POI) in the database.

I researched these detectors out the wazoo. I originally had the R3 and loved it. When the R7 came out, I sold my R3 on Facebook and never looked back. Unless you are willing to spend twice as much on an Escort redline at $750, the R7 is, by far, the best unit and greatest value on the market. I have had my R7 for well over a year or so and can't say enough great things about it. Now, with the auto-lockout feature released, it is a game changer!

This is great news and quite some time in the making. I have an R3 and was just looking at R7's last night. I tried the single suction cup (have used the double suction cups for years, but do come off the window every now and then) for the R3 in my 911 last night and not liking how it fits in that car, so maybe will be a better fit in the truck? @securityguy, if you were buying another radar detector now, would you buy the R7 or wait for the Theia?

Great question. How long have we been waiting on the Theia??? I really do like my R7 and, now with the new update, I think I'm going to love it even more. The range on this thing is killer and it will be half the cost of Theia if they ever get it to market and it meets all the hype ;)

I use the Blendmount and the hard wire kit and it's awesome in this truck! Was never a suction cup mount fan.

Hey there, so you've gotten an R7 hardwired up and using a blendmount, the one you linked, correct?

I have a 20' Limited and their site doesn't show a mount or hardware kit for my setup with the R7.

Just wanted to be sure I follow because I want to do this myself also.

Thank you

See if they have it for a 2021 Ram. The website is not 100% accurate. My mirror was not listed for 2019 but was under 2021.

Guys...if you are thinking about a detector and just haven't gotten there yet...this R7 is amazing!!! The latest update, without a doubt, makes this the best detector on the market. Highest sensitivity with the quietness to keep your sanity. The BSM filtering is great and now is the time to make your purchase!!!

Thanks for the heads up @frostymug !!! I just bought an R7 a few days ago from Bestbuy and called to get my price match!! Agree with @securityguy that the R7 is a great RD and at the current price of $375 it's a no brainer!!

I’ve downloaded the .ZIP file and the .bin file containing the new firmware is nowhere to be found in the unzipped package.

I’ve installed, removed, reinstalled, rebooted and no dice. I wonder if they pulled the latest firmware update...

Is anyone else out there having a similar issue? I’m on OS 10.15 (Catalina).

I’ve heard there are lots of headaches updating with Mac. Do you have access to a windows machine?

I determined the reason for the issue you are having. Uniden has not yet posted the 1.35 update on their site. You have to get it from the Vortex site. The file you are downloading is only a Red Light camera database update and not a firmware update.

Go to the Uniden R7 and click the link and the 1.35 update will automatically download to your MAC. I am on a MAC as well.

Thank you! Got it from the Vortex site and it was a snap. Really appreciate the help.

Once I DL’d the actual .bin file from the Vortex site it was easy peasy. The reason I couldn’t locate it from the Uniden package was because it wasn’t published there yet, LOL.
