Dude same exact dilemma here.. planning on putting a level on it but not sure which of the two tire sizes I want to go with. It’s my daily driver so I don’t wanna sacrifice too much MPGs

In my head I think if I keep the the E's relatively aired down combined with the fact that I'm getting more sidewall will balance things out and my ride won't change much. But then, I'm getting E-rated tires to not use them according to OEM specifications, so what's the point?

I tried the LT’s aired to 50psi and the mpg hit was atrocious. On the beginning of the next tank of gas, I aired up to 75 F/ 70 R and gained a little over 2mpg on the next tank, so I left it at that. The rolling resistance on these tires when aired down is absurd.

What tire size did you end up going with?

Glad you said this, that confirms I should just run at or around the PSI I'm supposed to. But then that means my ride will most likely deteriorate, noticeably, if not significantly.

Those calcs were done with the Toyo AT3 285/50/22. I still have them now, but they aren’t going on the new truck for another month. The 55 aspect ratio version should be pretty similar to my observations since the specs are so close.

@AngelPhoenix I think the ride is a little harsh when I have the tires almost fully aired up, but my wife thinks the ride is still good and that’s my yard stick when I do mods on the truck. The significant weight difference between the 305/45 and the LT tires paired with the harsher ride are making me want to switch my 285’s out. It’s really not a terrible ride though.

That looks nice man. 305/45r22's would like very similar I think.
I was looking at those recently because I don’t like the weight of my LT285/50/22’s (33x11.5). I am considering putting them up for sale/trade, but I think I’ll go with 285/45/22 next time. For reference, the tire you mentioned is 32.8” diameter x 12” wide, so like you said, pretty similar.

285/45's ride just fine (that's what I have right now) but they just don't quite look right to me, especially as far as filling the wheel well, especially if you're lifted/leveled. 305/45's are honestly not quite there either but that's as big as you can go afaik without hitting LT.

This should depend on what tread type you go to. Going from All season tread to All terrain will take a hit as well as a wider tread rolling down the road. I have the Toyo ATIII and took a 2Mpg hit going from stock all seasons to 305/45R22. I also have the Eco Diesel so may be different with the Hemi.

I'm in the opposite boat, I'm trying to decide if 285/55r22 E-rated tires are gonna mess with my ride too much and I should just go with 305/45's.
I'm so stuck reading all these old posts. Very unsure if the 285/55r22 or 305/45r22 will be better. I love the looks of the 55 for sure. But how's the ride with lt e rating. Or does it not matter because they're thicker and while the 45s are xl with less plys. I'm mainly stuck because the 45s are 20lbs less. But is comfort and how the truck handles the weight not that bad.

Just an FYI... I replaced the stock Goodyears with stock size 285/45R22 Toyo OC A/T III's. Got surprised yesterday in the Home Depot parking lot to hear the slightest rubbing in Entry/Exit mode while backing out of a parking space. It sounded as if it was from the passenger front at full lock. Not a big deal at all, though... and I suspect the rub might've been due to the WT mud guards, but not entirely sure yet.
do you mind sharing a picture of your tires.
