Trying to decide what wheel & tire size for lift

Hello,

I'm new to Ram and just purchased a 19 Laramie sport. I love it and now would like to lift it, etc. If I were to go with a 2 inch lift would 33 inch tires go well? I'm just confused on what wheel would be best on that combination of lift & tire size. Any recommended brands / options? Thanks for your time.

I guess its all a matter of personal preference and budget. Some people like HUGE sidewalls; some like to leave room for suspension articulation. Some like fat tires that stick out the fender wells; some like everything tucked in. I have reviewed as many posts with lifts and tires that I can. I have determined that the MOPAR 2" lift with a 285/60R20 (33.5" x 11.2") is the perfect combination for me (with stock 20" wheels).

^ yep. What he said lol. Really depends on your preference, id start with the wheels. What size and how much offset do you want?

General truck approach:

Inside the fender: slightly more tire, usually taller not necessarily wider. Like a 34x11 in this case with a 20x9 +18

Even with the fender: slightly Shorter tire, maybe a little more width. Like a 33x12.50 on a 20x9 +1

Outside the fender: same size as above, but requires trimming the more aggressive you get with the offset and tire sizing. Like a 33x12.50 on a 20x10 -24

If you went wider on the wheels, you’d probably want more lift to reduce the rubbing and trimming required.

I think you probably want one of the first two. If you are unfamiliar, check out custom offsets gallery. Sort by 2019 ram, probably 100 trucks with these setups on there to look at. Find the one, or ones, you like and you can get a good idea for what you want.

You will want to be in the 33-34 range though with just the 2”, you could do 35s but there’s no reason too IMO. As for the brand, a lot of good choices out there. Are you looking for all terrians, mud terrains, something that does well on highway but looks a little tougher?

Thanks for your detailed response. Really great info. I think I'm leaning toward an all terrain that does well with mpg, but still looks a little more rugged.

A lot of good options in that category, I really like the cooper at3 xlt for this type of setup. It’s not very aggressive on the tread but has a nice side wall and fairly quiet on the road.

Also ridge grapplers are super popular, I’ve never had any experience but people love them. A bit more aggressive all around for those but people say they are smooth and quiet as well.

I have 305/55/20 which measure 33"x 12.5" Nitto Ridge Grapplers. They are a non-LT tire (max size non-LT tire). Not cheap though. I think I paid $325 a tire or so. With the wider tire, I got an offset of +1 vs the stock +19 offset, so that they have a little more room. Had them on for a few months. Very pleased with my setup.

The cheapest quote I've received on having the 2 inch Mopar lift kit installed with an alignment is 1,965 total. It seems like this is a solid price?

Seems expensive to me. You can almost get into a 6” kit for that. Then again, the mopar kit is almost the same price as the 6” kits.

This stuff is all personal preference but I think that a 33 doesn’t fill the wheel wells well enough with a 2” lift. I think 35’s while they look good take the truck out of its optimum performance parameters and 34’s are the happy medium. How wide you want to go is another preference thing, with how cheap the paint jobs are on newer vehicles these days I’d personally not want anything slinging around my fenders or rocker with wide offset wheels but if you live in a city setting it might be a non issue.

I have the RC 2" level kit and I'm looking at getting 22x12 rims with a -44 offset. I really want 35" ridge grapplers but the local shop keeps telling me to go with 33s. What fender modification am i looking at, just fender trimming or more? Thanks

Yes. Here are some trucks for this forum, this one is leveled with 35s and 20x12s and you can see just how big this wheel and tire combo is on this truck. I guess some people think this style looks good as I’ve been told, but regardless of that, you can also see it doesn’t fit well. It’s way too big.

Here’s another truck with 22x12s and 33s. Not a fan of the red overload, but you can this truck just looks way more proportional all around. This is the ultimate aggressive daily driver setup, it looks badAs and you don’t have to cut your fender Wells off to do it.

And just because I have these photos, this is my truck with 7” or lift, 12 wides, and 35s. Pre and post trimming. removed the mudflap, cut the liner back, hammered the tab that holds the mudflap back. Nothing crazy, but this truck has a big lift and STILL rubs.

In this last photo, your probably looking at folding the corner back to where those bolts are if I had to guess. And will still probably rub in the standard scenarios. And then whatever beaver mod is required for the front.
