Hi everyone, I just wanted to update this post for anyone experiencing the same issue I’ve had. The problem I encountered last April turned out to be due to a software update and a recall. It was resolved, and the truck didn’t have any issues all spring and summer. Unfortunately, this October, the truck wouldn’t start again. I was able to jump-start it and brought it to the dealership. They diagnosed and checked everything but found nothing wrong. They also performed a battery load test, and everything was fine. They advised me to come back if it happened again. I was charged hundreds of dollars just for the diagnostic. The issue is that every time the truck is jump-started, it resets the codes, so by the time the dealership checks it, they can’t find anything. Now, the truck has failed to start twice in November, just one week apart. Each time, I jump-started it, and it ran as if nothing had happened. I don’t leave anything on before turning the engine on, so it seems like something is draining the battery, but neither the dealership nor an independent mechanic has been able to pinpoint the problem. The battery was replaced last year (as advised in this thread), so it shouldn’t be the issue.
For reference, it is 2021 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7L hemi etorque engine and I have the MOPAR CPO warranty that I purchased when I bought the truck last year, but I’ve not been able to use it because RAM dealerships only waive diagnostic fees and repairs if the issue is deemed eligible. So far, I’ve been paying out of pocket for all dealership visits because they keep saying nothing is wrong with the truck even though the problem clearly exists. I’m just exhausted and feel helpless with any of the RAM dealerships I’ve gone to. I tried finding an independent shop, but they couldn’t diagnose the issue because they don’t have access to the RAM subscription service needed for full diagnostics and repairs. At this point, I’m starting to feel like I got a lemon truck from the dealership, and I don’t know what to do anymore. Thank you in advance.
