Just picked up my new 2019 1500 Limited with the 12" uconnect systems. I am finding that the standard voice recognition with the navigation systems is pretty worthless. It seems to lack the ability to do any kind specific company search. It is able to navigate to specific addresses, but who knows that when doing a general search. It appears it is not able to navigate to a specific business name. To do that, I have to connect via Android Auto and do a google search witch then ends up using Maps in a half screen mode and not using the 12" navigation screen.

Exact same problem. I tried using Uconnect navigation to go to a hospital and it couldn't find it!! Ended up using car play. Then yesterday tried to voice command an address and it couldn't find it yet car play found it no issue. The NAV look is great but right now, completely useless.

Google, Alexa, and Siri are internet-connected, meaning they send your voice recording to a remote server, which has the horsepower and history of millions of other voice requests to determine what you said, and do it accurately. Your in-dash navigation is at a huge disadvantage vs. that. I found that typing it in is very reliable, for what that's worth. And the few times I used voice to dial from my contacts it's worked very well.

This is why I am torn about buying the 12 inch screen.

UConnect navigation and speech recognition will always be inferior to CarPlay. So if will always be using CarPlay, is there any benefit to having a 12 inch screen?

Huge benefit for me. I use sat radio a lot and I still do like to have in dash Nav for long drives and places where cell coverage is spotty. I’ve used CarPlay on long trips, say camping and to national parks. It isn’t fun when the map goes blank because you lost coverage. CarPlay takes over your entire screen and forces you to try to toggle back and forth to the other functions... except on the 12 inch screen. The 12” let’s you display both at the same time. Game changer.

You should check out some of the TFLTruck reviews on their Youtube channel or website. Almost every review they do a test of the voice recognition system, always asking for the name of a local restaurant and so far none of the systems have understood what they're asking for. It's a pretty fun test.

Of course! I use CarPlay regularly for Google Maps (except on short trips, where I'll use the UConnect nav) while also using Sirius XM at all times for music. It's nice having a screen that shows both at all times :)

Sirius / XM and music should never be used in the same sentence! ;)

Are you thinking of going back to the dealer to get this officially inspected, tpowers1916. Send us a direct message if we can be of any assistance with that process.

Me too...i have contacted FCA and they claim it is a software update problem.... very annoying to have the system tell me they don't understand me as I'm driving down the highway trying to find an address or business

I’m having the issue. Plus the maps are out of date. A few newer places don’t show up. Anyway to turn the keyboard function always on?

Haven’t had any problems with inputting of addresses I know by voice. Also, “find nearest restaurant “ will list out restaurants in area and ask to page down or pick number on screen.
I can say “navigation”, wait for prompt-screen change, “find nearest auto zone, Walmart etc..) and it will list them out closest first and ask you to choose a number of one you want and so on.
Build date 5/19. It will not allow me to upload video of example
No luck on (find nearest ‘example’ “ace plumbing”)

Does anyone have an issue getting Waze to work properly with Uconnect through Android Auto? It shows up as a choice, but when I try to launch the app, it tells me to complete setup on my phone, and there's nothing there requiring attention. Anyone?

It's a no brainer, the 12" is absolutely the nicest nav unit in the industry. Who cares about voice recognition anyway... The way that 12" fits in the dash and the other features you get a simply mind blowing. I also don't like all the big round knobs that are all bunched together in the 8" screen set up. Get the 12 and don't look back. If you need voice recognition you simply have car play.
