I'm going to be installing a brake controller on my 2021 1500 Limited. Is there any functional advantage to going with the factory controller vs aftermarket?

Outside of the oem ease of having it installed no.. they will both function the same way and serve same purpose

Oem will display in cluster, and let you have multiple trailers setup.
Also a light trailer and heavy trailer setting
Aftermarket-cheaper, no flash needed, can be moved or taken out easily. Sometimes simple is better

You wont need to get the truck computers reflashed with an aftermarket controller

Aftermarket controller using a accelerometer to trigger braking. OEM uses factory brake input as well as all the onboard sensors to help determine braking. Can save trailer set ups in menu for quick switching and have all gain adjustments already configured based on loaded or empty, or specific trailer being used. Have display in EVIC, plus it's an OEM option that will help with resale should you ever do that.

Thanks for the replies. After reading this I'm going to go with the factory brake.

I think when I had mine done it was 5 or 600 dollars when all was said and done.

I should be able to get into the OEM under $300 if I install myself. My friend will take care of the programming. I just wanted to be sure there was no advantage to going aftermarket.
