Tow mirror caps

Has anyone successfully removed their tow mirror caps without taking the whole assembly off the truck?

The bottom part(On the arm) popped off on me while i tried to squeeze into a tight garage opening... It's clips only, idk about the top swinging part...

Thanks for the input. I'm going to attempt to vinyl wrap these and I only see doing it properly by removing caps first.
