I have been looking at trucks for quite some time. Owned 3 chevy trucks and all were good. right now mine has 225,522 on it and it is showing the miles when i tow 20' bass boat loaded up. I am not a ford fan, been looking at Rams , Never owned one . I have watched so many videos on the pentastar motor vs. hemi . I think over a time all the high revving of the 6 cyl. will wear out faster than a hemi? Any Insight would be great .

Hemi over 3.6 all day ……. Hurricane over 3.6 all day

Just bought my 25 Laramie with the 3.0 SO and so far I’m impressed. I’ve had 4 hemis prior and all had cracked manifolds. None were the etorque version so I can’t speak on those. Took a break and went to Ford for a while but now I’m back in a Ram and couldn’t be happier.

Whats the hurricanes gas mileage when towing?

The only reason I have a hemi is because I thought they were phasing them out. The jokes on me!
Loved my 3.5 eb. More payload, towing, much quicker, better gas mileage. I feel the 3.0 going to be a heck of a motor for FCA.

You said you owned

You said about cracked manifolds. did you ever replace or just let them tick ?

I had an 05, 06, 08, and 12. Kept the 12 the longest. All bought from the same dealer. They gave me a hard time about fixing the 12, yet fixed all the others without question. That pissed me off enough to switch to the F150. I even switched the wife to explorers or expeditions instead of durangos or grand cherokees.

Assuming your fully loaded bass boat is under 5000 pounds, the Pentastar would have no issues towing it. Obviously the Hurricane and Hemi will tow it more easily, but the Pentastar won't struggle.

I am on my 3rd Hemi ..I retire them at 250K..I have yet to see anything it cant tow effortlessly..From my smallest boat of 3k lbs to my hyd dump trailer loaded at near 12k lbs, it does it beautifully. I doubt that turbo I6 can withstand the continued load all day..

same motor in my wife's van lol 180k just replaced - oil pump it's a duel pressure pump, 24 rockers any longer it would have taken out a cam and they are on galactic backorder and 300 each for Mopar. replaced the oil cooler/ filter housing with a doorman aluminum version and i'm about to change the plastic water crossover and plastic thermostat to the doorman aluminum replacements. it should be good to go for a hot minute. i did all the work myself and saved at least 2000 in labor. i would get a used 19-22 hemi without e torque.

The Hurricane delivers more power and lower RPM than the Hemi. You will be pushing the Hemi harder and at higher RPM than the Hurricane for the same load.

True, but towing you will be constantly under boost. So the jury is out so early in the 3.0 life. The ford 3.5 eb has worked out well so there is hope for the 3.0.

Have you towed with a Hurricane. I highly doubt you are "constantly" under boost.

And boosting what, 16 psi? Thats s a lot of heat...GM ,toyota and FORD are cooking main bearings on their 6 cyl turbos..what makes you certain Ram wont?

Did you watch the extreme heat towing test TFL did with the Hurricane? It's the ONLY truck that actually completed the climb without issue.

If that I6 turbo is so great for towing, why is it NOT available in the 2500 or 3500? Just sayin
Same reason the 5.7 Hemi isn't available in either of those configurations. So lets stick to the same orchard I'm this conversation

Ford doesn't put their turbos in the F250 either, they can't handle the duty cycle. Ford engineer is on record saying this to Andre from TFL. Heavy duty trucks put horsepower under durability/duty cycle on the list of "things that matter".

Half tons are basically glorified station wagons these days. Cushy suspensions and winning stop light wars matter to most buyers more than keeping a truck running through years of hard labour.
