Tire size?

Doing a 4" BDS lift. Keeping my factory 18" wheels. I'm thinking of using 2" wheel spacers. I prefer narrow tires. Better in the snow and slush. Think I can fit a 27" without rubbing or a metric equivalent? Thanks for opinions.

I have a 4" BDS lift with aftermarket 18" rims. I run 35s on it. BDS tells you on thier website what will fit. I have full articulation (for a truck) and no rubbing. The wheel spacers may help but when I did mine, I thought I would have a local shop do the lift and just drive it to Discount Tire for the waiting rims and wheels. No dice. The stock rims did not fit back on.

Honestly I think 27s will look silly with a 4" Lift. I am sure they won't rub.

I imagine the changed angle of the control arm hit the rim. I never looked as the mechanic called me and asked about wheels. I told him my plan and he just said they wouldn't fit. He asked if I could go get them but I told him he had my truck on a lift. He realized the situation and just told me to call them he would send someone to pick them up. So I didn't pay attention. I sold them here on the forum and called it good.

That's good to know I have no intention of buying new rims. I better call the shop and make sure the factory rims will fit. If yours did not mine will not. Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity what is your rim size?

They are Raptor 18x9x-6.

I don't know the offset of the stock rims. If you have 2" spacers it may bump them out enough to clear. Do the math and see. If it gets you to around -6mm you should be good.

to be fair i don't know if you have a lot of choices for 37s that are not 12.5 or more wide. Only choice i see is Ridge Grappler with 37x11.5R18 and I would strongly recommend you run 37x12.5R18 instead simply because of market availability.

granted it's different lift and wheel/ tire combo, but the basic idea remains. You will want to have about 4.5" backspacing which translates roughly to -12mm for safe clearance if you don't want to deal with the headache of calculation and stuff.

if you must keep your stock wheels and run thinner tires in 37s, just find out your stock wheel's offset and bring it down to -12mm to clear UCA to be on the safe side. -12mm offset/ 4.5" backspacing is the minimum I'd run. Even at that offset/ backspacing on 12.5" wide tires the tires are still pretty close to UCA by my standard. Also keep in mind that if you run too aggressive spacers, you will need to trim and possibly wear out your drivetrain and steering parts faster.

personally I'm the type of guy that do things right the first time so I don't need to deal with the potential problems later. so my recommendations to my customers (i build overland/ offroad rigs) is always get the correct offset wheels and use tire sizes that are readily available.

1. Stock 18" wheels cannot be reinstalled due to steering interference. Stock 20s can be reinstalled with factory tire size
2. Recommended Tires & Wheels
   • 35 x 12.5 with 18 x 9 and 5 in. Backspace
   • 35 x 12.5 with 20 x 9 and 5 in. Backspace

From BDS website. I never looked just ordered the kit through a shop. Looks like I'll be buying wheels after all. I'll stick with 35" tires. Hopefully find some used ones.

With a 4" lift, going to a much smaller tire, you would look like the Most ter trucks when to put in the smaller tires to fit in the trailers.

I ment 37" tires but if I did 27" I would be the only truck in town like it.

Now that I need to search for wheels BDS recommends 18x9 5" backset. I believe that translates to 0 mm offset. As mentioned in previous post going with a 4.5 backset to be safe. What is the difference? Does wheel stick out of the wheel well a little more? I will be going with 18" rims.

I will say that a -6mm offset leaves you just a hair out from flush with 35x12.5 tires. This is mine with the 4 inch BDS. After that pic i put on mud flaps.
