Tire Advice Off-Road Group with 3.92 Rear and 20" rims

I searched the forums but could'nt find anyone asking about this specifically. What is the biggest tire I can fit without rubbing on my 2020 Quad Cab with factory 1" lift, 3.92 Rear Axle and 20" rims.

I've seen 285/65r20 thrown around as about the max tire size you can get on a stock ORG suspension, but I don't know if that was for Air or non-air.

35"s aren't fitting anything stock without rubbing!

275/60R20 would be closer but some companies actually make a 33x11.50R20 though.

So I'm a complete newbie here on the forums so I apologize if this was discussed somewhere and I missed it. I'm ordering a 21' Bighorn CC 6'-4" box with the North Edition (ORP included in that.) The truck is coming with the standard chrome rims but the 20" black rims are being thrown in as I don't want chrome. I'm planning on having a 2" lift installed next spring. What's the largest tire I can get on the rims now without it looking ridiculous when I have the lift installed? Or should I just wait to pick the tires out until I have the lift installed? TIA

What did you end up with? I just ordered a 2023 limited with ORG/air and I’m going to switch out for stock 20” rims first thing. Trying to figure out the biggest tire I can fit without any modifications.

295/65r20 is the tallest tire you can fit with stock 20’s and air ride/ORG. I did it last week. I later put 3/4 inch spacers on the front and the tire rubbed the wheel spat/mud flap, so I know it must have been close before. For Wider tires someone else can chime in on that.

I have a leveled 2021 Laramie. Largest tire is a 295/65r20 without any trimming (offset will play a factor though).

I’ve posted to a few other forums with similar inquiries. I can confidently say 285/65/R20 BFG KO2’s will fit without issue on a stock Laramie ORP without air suspension. Not sure about anything bigger.

Just had 20x9, 0 offset amd 5" backspacing put on today. Falken at3w in 285/60/20 with the ORG and factory air suspension. Zero rubbing, even at full lock in entry/exit mode. Couldn't be more happy with the setup.

I'm old school and use the term backspacing almost exclusively myself. So help me out a little to understand this. You have a 9" rim and 5" backspacing and that equals 0 offset? Are you saying offset FROM OEM? I thought offset was from centerline of the wheel? Sorry, I don't remember which way was positive or negative.

He's including the half inch estimated for the lip of the rim. So 9" wide, 0 offset = 4.5" + 0.5" = 5" backspacing.

Positive offset moves the center line to the outside of the wheel which moves the rim edge inward. Negative does the opposite. Stock 20 are +19 offset. The drawback for the stock wheels comes in the width of the tire as the clearance to the upper control arm mount is not whole lot to start with. Offset/backspacing plays a big part in what tire will fit and how much lift may need.
