Thumbs up for Toyo Open Country ATII's

One of my original Falkens encountered a piece of metal in the sidewall and couldn't be repaired. I can't say I was unhappy with the Falkens, they certainly rode very well but I was just not certain about their quality as an OEM tire. So I went ahead and replaced all four but with a brand other than Toyo with a highway tread. I'm not really an off roader though I'll go down some gravel or dirt backroads on vacations if needed so I figured the highway tread wouldn't hurt anything, Planning on a road trip around Utah this summer. The tires never felt right, went back twice to have them force balanced. Still wasn't happy so I took advantage of the 30 day ride guarantee and put on the Toyo Open Country ATII's. The Toyo's are night and day different from the other tires and just feel totally right on the truck. A little bit of noise but hey, that's what the 19 speakers are for. It's interesting to me that the door sticker for trucks with the ORP call for 32 PSI while the non ORP trucks call for 36. I have to assume the factory thinks this softens the ride on the stiffer suspension. I'll probably bump them up to 35 and see how it goes. Just thought I'd share my experience, I know there's a lot of great tire choices out there but I'm very pleased with the Toyo's. Happy Trails to all.

Great tire. I prefer them over the ever-so-popular BFG AT KO's. Toyo is a premium tire.

Any change in your mileage over stock?
Doesn't seem to "suck" any more or less. Since we're heading toward warmer weather and summer blend it may be hard to tell. I get around 14.2 - 14.5 for my daily commute which is mostly city streets and no interstate. So far it's staying right in that range.

Thanks. I really want some more AT style tires but want to wear out the stock set first. Having the 22's makes me even more leary with the potential mileage hit.

Interested in the road noise on these tires. How would these compare to the duratracs? I swapped out my stock 285/45r22 eagle touring for a 275/60r20 duratrac. They are fairly noisy, but not fair to compare to the touring tire. Really wanting the aggressive look but don’t want to sacrifice ride quality.

Obviously can't speak for the Duratrac's but I don't think these are noisy considering the aggressive tread. I do hear them a bit when slowing down to a stop but it's nothing I'd consider annoying. Bottom line for me is that they just feel "right" on the truck. Hopefully some others will chime in about their experiences.

I logged over 180,000 miles on Toyo Open Country AT2's on my Avalanche. Fabulous AT tire. Acceptable tread life, great wet road and snow performance, and rides like an all season on the highway. No complaints from me at all. Running Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my RAM, very satisfied with those as well.

I’ve had Toyo on my last three trucks and have been very happy.

Hi looking into Toyo open country at for my 2019 1500. I tow horses. Would these be good for towing? Thinking 275/60
I'd say they would be fine, but check the ratings. I towed my loaded down 20x8 v nose trailer with my Cummins and the tires were no different than unloaded in my opinion. Haven't towed anything with the 1500 yet

Thinking about getting 33 x 12.50 would this be OK to tow a boat when fully loaded at 6300 pounds?

Anyone who tows/hauls a lot, a tire with more sidewall strength should be considered. An "E" rated tire is generally 12 ply, where a light duty tire is 6 or 8 ply. The additional side wall rigidity limits the amount of lateral movement the tire will have between the rim and the road. The negative to added sidewall strength is a rougher, less compliant ride. Toyo Open Country's do have several E rated tires, you just have to look for what's available in the size you need.
