Do you think it really made a difference? I've heard it was really more of a placebo effect, that it only seemed like more power, because it made the resistance different so hitting the pedal 1/4 of the way, was the same as hitting the pedal 1/2 way before. no real power added, just had to push pedal less. There was a youtube, that the guy added it and 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile times didn't change at all. Competitors video maybe?
Essentially correct, the peddle commander isn't designed to add power, but increase the throttle rate depending on the settling.
This is very similar to the "Sport" mode on many vehicles, which besides adjusting the transmission shift points (Pedal Commander does not control transmission directly) also adjust the throttle rate. So it feels more sporty due the throttle being activated at higher rate than 1:1.
There is no placebo effect, you can feel it most definitely, especially at the higher settings, however it's just because the throttle is being "pressed" at a higher & faster rate than what your foot is doing.
Though admittedly its says so on the tin, "Peddle Commander". It controls your peddle/throttle rate.
Even though it says it's designed to work within the throttle parameters of the vehicle, I don't completely trust it to not cause possible damage. Just press the throttle more.
Probably, but at the highest setting, if you are aggressive and/or floor it, that throttle is moving very fast. My buddy has one in his Tacoma, and at the 4 setting, it feels almost violent. I decided right there not to get one.
I guess if you keep it on setting 1 or 2, it should be alright, but driving hard at the highest settings felt really shaky to me.
I had the pedal commander in my 2012.. everything I read about the 5th gens and the issues with the pedal commander made me lean towards the sprint booster for my 2020. I'm a big fan of both and what they do, I enjoyed it more with the on demand setting than adjusting the throttle response with the diablo tuner and my custom tunes. You can usually pick them up used on the marketplace for ~100-150 (either brand).
