Greetings,

I just joined the RAM world with a new-to-me 2019 RAM 1500 4x4. It has 36k miles on it and in remarkably clean condition.

I searched high and low to find one with both the crew cab and a 6'4" box. Only one dealer in my area was ordering them in this configuration and they weren't working well with me over the phone, not to mention missing a few key options I wanted, so when I found this nicely equipped truck I went with it. I feel pretty fortunately that this truck has pretty much everything I wanted to order with the exception of the color and it doesn't have the 33gal fuel tank. Minus those two compromises, it has the step bars for my short wife and kids, bed utility and tow packages for truckin', and I really wanted the Big Horn 2 for the creature comforts and remote start. The granite gray color is still pretty nice and I suppose I can live with "only" 400 miles of range...

I come from a GM family and after my second Chevy truck I decided I was ready for a new set of problems and the value that RAM is currently offering in the 5th gen is quite nice. I'm a vehicle engineer and even just looking under the hood, I'm impressed with the equipment layout, cable routing, connector choices, etc. I'm really enjoying the new truck.

As it's new-to-me, I'm learning about all of the common problems and how to get ahead of them. I still have 2 years left on my powertrain warranty so time to make friends at the dealer to get the early signs of the exhaust tick taken care of (barely perceptible right now but I can hear it).

I'm probably going to get the Krown rust treatment on it soon to weather these Illinois winters better. Both of my Chevies had significant rust problems which I'm looking to avoid.

Also pictured it's an alpine mountain goat horn keychain I picked up in Germany back in 2010. Seemed appropriate to pair it with the RAM fob.

Welcome! I have always been a Chevy man too. This is the first time I have no GM products in my stable. No regrets tho. All makes have their issues. My ram has been great so far.

I would definitely look into the air conditioner redesign TSB (I’ve had this done), rear window/third tail light/shark fin water leak, and exhaust manifold crack issues. Those seem to be the biggest ones out there.

Otherwise, enjoy the road ahead!

Welcome! I'm not biased on manufacturers so the decision to get a RAM came down to looks and interior quality that was lightyears (okay 2 model years) ahead of the other brands. It also helped that I had 3 SRT Jeeps and a 300 SRT8 and not a single one of them had any problems, so I leaned toward FCA. I also bought my 2019 RAM used and so far the only major issue it has had was the steering rack going out, which was mostly covered by the dealership and RAM HQ after putting in a case with RamCares because I was just outside the 36 month warranty period.

What were your symptoms of the air conditioner deficiency? Mine seems to be working well right now. Can't really go in and demand a TSB without a symptom. No idea if it was done in the prior 3 years of ownership either.

Same with my sharkfin antenna and rear taillight. No signs of leaks. I read that TSB and saw that for the antenna they just recommend a leak test and verifying torque values for the foam (I assume neoprene) gasket, and the rear taillight. Maybe I'll do that this weekend just to check if there's a leak I haven't seen.

Mine would not blow cool enough due to poor housing design. On a hot day my can would never cool off. I didn’t notice until the summer since I bought it in the winter

Welcome and congrats! It;s quite possible that some of the inherent issues have already been addressed. If so, lucky you!

Nice truck, I like that color👍🏻 These new rams had and still have several issues today! I’ve had 2 now, 19 with never ending vibrations, after several parts were replaced with no fix ram bought it back! Now with a 21 ram, at under 8,000 miles electrical issues for several months with no fix, several things were disabled because of this. After the 4 th. dealer visit, it’s fix now, broken wires in the wiring harness. My dealer told me they have seen several others broken in the same spot! Finally at 13,000 miles it’s been trouble free for 3000 miles. 🤞 I do love these new rams, just not all the unresolved issues. Also, I was not treated very well by some people at ram with the issues the 19 had. I guess I should feel lucky at least both of the main issues I had, I could still drive it, just not fun to drive that way. There are people with a lot worse issues then I’ve had. I’m was also a Chevy guy for 25 years. The really sad part is, I’ve been to the dealer more with these two rams in three years then my whole 25 years of many different Chevys put together 😩 Like others have said drive your truck and enjoy it, hopefully if anything was wrong it’s been fix by now🤞 Maybe you’ll be one of the lucky ones that will drive 150,000 miles trouble free👍🏻 Also like others have said all brands have issues, even worse since Covid! Good luck and enjoy your new truck😁
