Being an engineer by trade i learned a long time ago not to initially over think a solution. The KISS (keep it simple stupid!) theory is the best way to start to trouble shoot any issue.
I have certainly been a victim of over thinking a problem and of course you can be a little pissed off when you realize it was something simple but don't forget to laugh at yourself because life is too short!!!

I always heard it as "There's probably a loose nut connecting the steering wheel to the seat". First time someone said that to me I literally said to them there's no mechanical connection to the seat from the steering wheel.... I'm tall and it still went right over my head at the time

Or in IT, as we say: "PEBCAK". Problem Exists Between Chair and Keyboard
