Tell me I'm not crazy 2019 1500 BCM Issue

It’s fine long as you’re mindful of not going to dark.. for example I have 70% helps cut down headlight glare and keeps the interior cooler. 70% is virtually clear.. you wouldn’t be able to tell it was tinted unless I pointed it and keeps me from having to even bother using a windshield shade anymore. Remember some guys have better eyes then other what might bother you, might not bother someone else.

This is where I am at. Helps with the glare a bit. Maybe it’s a bit cooler. My jeep is 70% and I like it. Seemed like there was a weird glare off it, maybe because it’s flat, maybe it’s in my mind. But, I like it on my Jeep and figured I’d do it with my truck. Wish I had done some Googling beforehand now though.

Could be also the brand of tint, some are better than others when it comes to windshield tint. Some will look wavy and others have the rainbow hue color. I think at the time I went off the shops recommendation and used Xpels brand.

i've seen some really dark jobs totally illegal in my state but okay what you said sounds fair. kinda like the factory goldish mirror tinted windshields from the 90's.

Ive seen a few to dark myself mostly on those stupid Carolina squatted, rims sticking out 2 ft outside the fender trucks if that tells you anything lol. I wouldn’t mind a tad bit darker if I have to ever redo it.

carolina squat is ridiculous. so is making the wheels/tires on a car look like a hotwheel i stepped on. freaking retarts! yeah that right i used the R-word.
so they really shorted the BCM?? come'on how much water was used on the tint job??? oh and i think that dealer is ripping you........

C’mon, squatted trucks have a purpose. Easier to identify the owner as a moron from a distance.

On a serious note, what’s the rough cost to install and program a new module if it needs it? Tint shop said they’d make it right, but I am just curious.

is it just me? i would not have tinted the windshield in the first place. why are we tinting entire windshields?

I have tinted mine twice. I live in North Texas where the summers can hit 110° for weeks at a time, having ceramic IR tint on the windshield in addition to the other windows makes a tremendous difference in cabin temps. My 1st windshield got hit by a rock and cracked about a year after tinting, after it was replaced, the 2nd windshield was tinted by the same shop who was familiar with the BCM issue. I had zero problems either time but many here have because the tint shop wasn't as cautious as they needed to be.

My tint is 70% so not dark like you may think

A nogo for me, wearing polarized eye wear with ceramic tint do not play well together.

Yep gotta be the brand of tint. No issues from me w/ multiple pairs of prescription polarized sunglasses and safety glasses here.

So, I went to the dealer today. I told them I would pay them for my work and I just wanted the truck back so I could have it towed to a dealer an hour away. I also voiced my displeasure with the service advisor. She showed me the bill. $600 and change to install a battery (that didn't fix any of my issues). I voiced more displeasure and she asked if I wanted to speak to the service manager. Yeah, I did. I explained the situation to him and he seemed to care. I asked him to pull the notes and the diagnostic and he did. Turns out none of the information I told the advisor about tinting the windshield, water getting on the dashboard or the known BCM issue ever made it to the tech. But, I looked at the diagnostic report and it is readily apparent the BCM is the issue. 2/3 of it list the BCM as the DTC issue and almost all of the other codes (TCM, PCM, ICS, DTCM) have the description "Lost communication with BCM. So, I told the manager I have just about entirely lost faith in this dealership. He said he has been there a month and is aware of the reputation. He says he is trying to change that and will fix my bill to something more reasonable. As my wife and I are waiting, the service advisor comes out of their office with another employee and is carrying their coffee cup and a bunch of other stuff and leaves. The service manager comes back in and tells me the advisor no longer works there and was just let go. I felt bad because I don't want people getting fired and told the manager that. He said it wasn't the only reason, there has been a string of issues. With that in mind I asked the manager if he believed he had a decent tech who could fix my issue now that we have a clear line of communication. He said he was sure they could fix it and seems to now have a personal interest in making it right. I let them keep the truck for now and I am hopeful he will get a decent tech on it. What bothers me more than anything is there were 3-4 people in their 70's waiting for their cars to be finished. There were two women who were probably 80 years old. I asked the service manager if they rake everybody over the coals like they did to me, and asked who is the voice of reason for these people? $600 for me is not a huge deal, but some of these people may only have $1000 to their name. They just blindly pay whatever the dealer tells them because the dealer is the "professional" and the techs are "certified". It's sad, because some people have no clue.

I'll keep you posted,
Erik

$600 for a battery yikes
Yeah, I was ready to pay $300-$400 and be done with it. When she hit me with $600+ for a battery, I lost my patience. When they told me a battery would fix it I told them I didn't think so, I told them to check the BCM. They were adamant that a battery would fix it so I figured, whatever, a new battery is always nice. But, to pay $600+ for a battery I knew I didn't need and didn't fix any of the issues, I was a little hot. I guess we will see what is next. The saga continues...

Because I am probably angry and it is at the forefront of my mind, I ran some numbers while I was sitting in an online meeting. I looked through all of the codes. There are 43 codes total. 3 of those codes I knew about. My TMPS, my passenger mirror, and my automatic grill shutters have issues. 28 (65%) of those codes were listed as BCM. In the details of the other codes the words module, circuit or CAN-BUS are listed 38 times (88%). Seems to me that would lead a tech in a certain direction, but what do I know? I'm not a tech.

neither are most of the techs

Update, my truck hasn't moved since I talked to the manager and he hasn't returned my messages or calls. I am waiting on a tow truck to come pick it up and tow it to another dealer an hour away. Just killing me, but live and learn I guess. I'll keep y'all posted.

Did they even bother reflashing the BCM? They can restore your truck settings through the VIN on their wiTech2.0 interface.

Not that I know of. Buffoons.

Here is the latest. I went to the dealership with a tow truck. We went back into their secure lot where my truck was. The keys were sitting right on the seat where I left them two days ago. We put my truck on a flat bed and hauled it away. Two techs walked by and nobody ever asked us a question as to what we were doing. Keep in mind, it is a tow truck driver with a flat bed and I am a 6-2 man with a beard and tattoos who showed up on a Harley.

Anyway, they towed my truck to the dealer about 45 minutes away. I explained my situation and then went out to pay the tow truck driver. While I was out there the service advisor came out and introduced me to the tech. The tech crawled under my dashboard, disconnected some wires and whatever and reconnected them. He was then able to start my truck, all of the issues still were present. That was two hours ago.

As I am typing this the dealership calls me and tells me my truck is ready to be picked up. The BCM had lost connection with everything else and there were codes everywhere. They disconnected the BCM, cleaned up the connections, and reconnected it. They cleared the codes, reset the BCM, and the main PCM (I think). Anyway, they said it was ready to go. I can't believe I screwed around with the first dealer for the better part of two weeks. I will pick it up tonight and I hope it really is fixed.

The difference in levels of service form delaer to dealer is staggering with dodge and IMO will be why they continue to flounder. I have learned the same lessen as you albeit much more minor but the same service none the less. Dodge should be ashamed of theselves for the inconsistency of service and the quality of that service from shop to shop. 🤬
Im glad the new dealer got your truck fixed and hopefully its permantley resolved(y)
