Just a word of caution: These are nice for times when you would like to leave your key with the vehicle for whatever reason, but not as a permanent hidden key location. Once moisture gets in there it will start to corrode and eventually the sliding compartment will be unable to slide out. Leaving this product in your hitch all the time is not advised.

I use one for whitewater kayaking trips and it is very useful for that type of short term storage.

Edit: Unfortunately this new vehicle can't utilize this product. I didn't have the proximity key fob on my previous trucks, this new one would mean anyone could just open my truck by grabbing the handle.

Actually you could use it if you can find a Faraday bag that will fit both the key and inside of the hitch lock. Faraday cages block RF signals so while the key is in the bag it cannot send any RF signals to your truck.

Just google "faraday bag" and you'll find a ton of options.

A lot of the road toll RF tags (e.g. EZ Pass) come with a silver bag that allows you to not allow the EZ Pass to be read when you want that. Perhaps try the silver bag to seen it will block the key fob signal enough.

I don't have door proximity touch n go, so I have to press unlock on my key fob to get the tailgate open when the doors are locked.

I dropped off my truck to have a topper installed. I removed the key from the remote and left the remote with the installer. Realizing I left something in the truck, I used the key to open the door and the alarm went off. How/Can this be avoided?

this is interesting, and like a huge dilemma I debate with myself constantly..I hate having to carry the fob around while bike/hike/casino/boat etc..my 4th gen I used to hide the fob in the truck and just take the metal insert..I'd do that again, except leaving the fob in the vehicle, a possibly break in wouldn't even have to find the fob and push start.

my truck doesn't have proximity entry, which I really want, but for this reason, maybe not.

I'll have to experiment..with the fob hidden, and the truck locked/armed, I know the unlock button won't work..if you break the window and open the door, alarm goes off/shouldn't start without the fob unlock button pressed..so maybe leaving the fob in truck, as long as hidden and not found and pressed, isn't as bad as I though.
