I have a 2022 Bighorn quad cab ETorque. I have had it for about 1 yr. It only has 40k miles on it. Zero complaints except my tailgate keeps opening. I have lost several items out of it. I more nervous of damaging someone's vehicle behind me. Brought it to the dealer, they said I have an aftermarket cover on- this is causing the issue. No recalls listed on my vin except ABS (which I still have to fix). The cover I had on at this time was a cheap soft rollup with aluminum arches. Since then upgraded to a diamondback hd cover (awesome cover).

The issue still persist. Its totally random. Every time I go over a bump I am using the shortcut icon I made to check the rear camera. Anytime I close the tailgate I make sure its latched. I read in a facebook group that this has been a problem for other years and some even had a recall. I was told I can set an alert for the tailgate opening (if equipped with jscan/cable/OBD reader). I did this and of course no change. Find out I only have the 2 wire latch. Questions I have that I am hoping someone can help:
-In order to enable this I was told I need Mopar 68311435AD (harness) and a new latch for the right 68312079AM. Is there any harm in getting the left and right latch off eBay- I found the full assesmbly? I am not sure why the one post said only to purchase the right.
-If changing out the latches- is this the "dealer" fix for this issue with an upgraded latch?

Oh no we're sorry to hear of this! Feel free to send our team a private message for an extra layer of support.

Only the right latch has the sensor for the indicator you turned on in Alfa. If I remember correctly the recall was just to adjust the latch post on the bed, not the latch itself.
