So my work truck is a 2019 Laramie 3500 4x4 with the factory tailgate assist. 99% of the time i am towing a trailer and one day someone thought it would be cute to unclip the trailer lock and long story short the trailer smashed my tailgate. I go and buy from Marketplace a used 2019 tailgate that never had factory tailgate assist, had it painted to match my truck as the only thing i noticed was I have the chrome handle on my truck and this did not. I come to find out that this new used tailgate i bought has welded hinges on the tailgate side and the tailgate which came on my truck has bolt on ones . Turns out the ones welded on with spot welds dont fit on the trunions on the bedsides and im going to have to change the tailgate hinges to the ones on my existing tailgate. This means ill have to cut out the spot welds holding them on the tailgate i bought.
Has anyone done this? Can I just swap over those hinge parts and not worry about the tailgate assist junk? are there threaded plates inside the OEM tailgate that i can switch over? any help appreciated
