Step Bars/Running Boards Modded??

Has anyone modified their step bars or running boards to sit closer to the cab? I have RC drop step tube bars currently and am wanting something different, but that doesn't sit far out or low from the cab. I don't need huge steps and don't want to pay $$$$ for Amp or Mopar retractable steps. I like having fixed steps, just want something narrower. Anyone else tinker with doing this?

Thank you for the added pics! Those look great on your truck.

I wish Ram come with or offered shallower running boards like on F150's. Much sleeker looking.
