Sources Reveal the Internal Battle over the HEMI® V8’s Future at Stellantis...

It was time to end the 5.7L, they should have been designing a new V8 but here we are. New RAM CEO surely wants v8s as an option.

I don't agree at all. The 5.7 is a 20 year old engine, and it's still competitive with the 5.3, and 6.2 from GM, fitting between them in terms of HP and displacement and performance. It was neck and neck with the Tundra 5.7 and Nissan's v8s, they were around 400 hp; it's also competitive with the 5.0 Coyote, though that engine is more impressive as it makes the same power now with less displacement. So that's a healthy and excellent option to keep around, 20 year old design with a pretty solid reputation (other than a few lifter failures here and there) and still running with everybody else, what exactly is the issue?

So: "Time to end", no. "Time to start work on a successor for the future", yes.

If they would have stuck the 6.4 @ 475ish hp in as an option, it would have outperformed GMs 6.2 and all the other v8's and probably the ecoboost as well.

Absolutely nothing wrong with either engine, the real mistake was not putting in the 6.4 as an optional upgrade. That would have taken the pressure off the 5.7 to perform as the top engine. Just like nobody cares that the 5.3 isn't the strongest, because the 6.2 is available, if the 6.4 was an option then nobody would care too much that the 5.7 was "only" 400 hp.

^ agreed. 6.4 in the 1500 trim would of been awesome. Hemi didn’t need to go anywhere just like LS have been around for forever as well. Just improve upon them and offer them as an engine option right beside the hurricane.. give potential buyers options like they always have and let them decide which one they want.

Xactly’. I get it that CAFE and emissions standards got the execs at Stellantis pissing their pants so they over-reacted and dropped the v8.
Funny that GM and Ford looked at the same standards and kept theirs…

Sure was shortsighted on Carlos N’s watch yet fortunately before he completely killed CDJR, he’s out. Now to see if it can still be saved. He did an incredible amount of damage to the brand(s) and really set us back years.

Let’s hope that common sense prevails/returns and someone who really understands the North American market gets the helm.

Watch some of these YT channels for info: TK’s Garage, OC Motivator and Butter Da Insider, they seem to have good sources.

Yup, GM invested about a billion to keep their small block in compliance, the first next gen V8 comes out in 2028. Ford decided to keep the Coyote while the Mustang ICE still exist, as a side benefit it's still available on the F150.

Stellantis (Tavares) decided it wasn't worth the effort to update the Hemi, luckily for him his got his bonus and golden parachute, with Stellantis left to figure it out going forward. With the new administration and manufacturers pulling back from going full EV on schedule, who knows, we may still get a new V8.

And to show how they misread the market and have backed their dealers into a corner, theres a Ft Smith Ar CDJR dealer with 11 new 2023’s still on the lot. Jeeps mostly, yet the incentives are only between 5 and $8k

How does a dealer sell a 2023 model that’s been sitting for like 700 days (on a floorplan no less) with such little incentives?
Geez Louise Stellantis, authorize a 40% of end of the year sale and get rid of that inventory. 🤔🙄

I would think those last hemi engined trucks would be at a premium right now!

There’s a lot near me that still has 2023 Challengers left. One is a Hellcat Jailbreak that’s marked down almost $30,000 from the extra $20,000 over MSRP they originally stuck on it almost 2 years ago. I’m amazed nobody snapped it up yet.

If they come back with an srt or hellcat new version then those who paid the super markup may well be pissed.

I’ve always wanted the automotive 6.4 in the 1500. Only issue is they would have likely only made it available in trim levels that would be 70k +.

If it was available in a “reasonably” priced performance/bighorn trim level I’d have marched right down to the dealer and ordered one.

That's the engine I wanted in the TRX platform. The HC is just too much and the Hur HO is powerful but lacking a bit of character. The "TRX 392" would be awesome compromise.

You can still get a brand new 6.4 SRT for $6500 shipped to your address of choice (you need a forklift or pay extra to have them deliver to house with a lift). A number of guys have swapped them into a 1500, they bolt right up and reuse your accessories, requires a tune.

That would be an awesome RHO to 392 project truck.

Yeah I never understood why they didn't do a special model with the 6.4. Anyhow, here we are looking at big sales declines quarter after quarter after quarter in the sales reports. Can't wait to see how far they fell again Q4 when those numbers hit in two weeks. Meanwhile, GM and Ford are showing growth. Probably because they are stealing sales from Ram. I feel like Kuniskis was brought back at the last possible moment because this company was sinking. I have a feeling we're going to see some HUGE news at the auto shows next month.
