Hey guys,

My names Jordan. I own a mechanic shop in Sudbury Ontario Canada.

I just traded my 2019 Mega Cab Limited for a 2024 Ram Mega Cab Limited Night Edition.

I love the truck. But one thing that seriously is getting to me (I know small details but for a $110k+ truck I feel I can be a bit upset) lol..

Does anyone know why on earth they took the woodgrain off the steering wheel at the top!?! I asked if I could just swap steering wheels but the buttons etc are different. Anyone know if it’s possible?

You are on the 5th Gen Rams site you might have better luck on Homepage - HD Rams. It is possible to swap steering wheels on the 5th Gen, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be possible on yours.

wood grain: well to my knowledge they took that out as of 2023 thats not an option or a thing anymore. not many people like it or get it now a days (unless its longhorn edition i think?)

swap steering wheel: might have better luck in the HD forum, but im sure its possible.

They took the wood grain out.

I sold my old wheel that had the wood grain to someone with a 23 who got one like yours.
Just make sure it's heated or not, the inside guts and trim just swap out.

Does the 24 HD have the digital dash the 1500s have? If so, then yes the wheel has different buttons, that do different functions, and I don't think you can just swap with an older one. I seem to recall someone upgrading an older truck to the digital dash, and the buttons not working right.

You keep YOUR buttons when you swap the wheel.
There 3 screws on each side you remove.

Yes, the 23+ HD are available with the digital EVIC and it's standard in the Limited.

HD just got the "5th gen" wheel treatment in 23. The 19-22 wheels are 4th gen.

The 19+ interior is a mix of 4th gen (seat frames) with a splash of 5th gen treatment. No HUD and no 5th gen cab.

I gave the OP his answer via PM on HDRams forum, but for any other HD owners that stumble across this thread and might waste money because of some of the responses here:
No, on an HD Ram, you can not just swap out a 2023+ steering wheel for a 2019-2022 steering wheel with the wood top. The steering wheel button layout and shape is different for the 2023 HD Rams, the steering wheel switch controls are on a different message ID than previous years, the steering column control module has different connectors and circuits, the steering wheel wiring harness is different, and the buttons for a pre-2023 steering wheel will be unresponsive when installed in a 2023.

A straight up steering wheel swap from previous years into a 2023+ 1500 works because none of the things mentioned above have changed on the 1500’s.

There are some things similar between the HD Rams, and many things different, and this is why if you don’t know for absolute certain, it’s best to just direct the poster to the HDRams forum. Need to keep in mind that other people might stumble across threads like this, and take the suggestions literally without checking the other forum, and could leave them spending a lot of money they don’t need to.

I really just want to commend you on your knowledge.

I was wondering what a Megacab was, and that $110k price tag. Didn't think that was possible to hit on a 1500 except a trx.

Not hard to hit on an HD with the base price of a Limited 90-92K, and the SO diesel priced at over 9K and the HO at over 12K alone. My 2020 $87K 3500 HO Limited now prices out at ~$107K.
