I was teaching my daughter how to jockey the truck in behind my work van tonight and after about 15 min of practicing the steering maneuvers, this power steering hot indicator message came up in the guage cluster. Steering also stopped working properly unless the truck was in motion. I'm a bit concerned about this as I've never encountered this issue in any other vehicle I've owned.
Anybody else have this issue or is anybody able to shed any light on why this truck would have this going on? It was also only about 5⁰ Celsius out.

It's electric, so it can get hot over an extended usage. If the warning went away, you should be fine. Here is what it says from the manual pg. 317....

If the Steering icon is flashing, it indicates that the vehicle
needs to be taken to the dealer for service. It is likely the
vehicle has lost power steering assistance.

If the Steering icon is displayed and the “POWER STEERING
SYSTEM OVER TEMP” message is displayed on the instrument
cluster screen, they indicate that extreme steering
maneuvers may have occurred which caused an over
temperature condition in the power steering system. Once
driving conditions are safe, pull over and let the vehicle idle
for a few moments until the icon and message turn off. Refer
to “Instrument Cluster Display” in “Getting To Know Your
Instrument Panel” for further information.

If the Steering icon is displayed and the “SERVICE POWER
STEERING – ASSIST OFF” message is displayed the instrument
cluster screen, they indicate the vehicle needs to be
taken to the dealer for service. Refer to “Instrument Cluster
Display” in “Getting To Know Your Instrument Panel” for
further information.

NOTE:
• Even if the power steering assistance is no longer operational,
it is still possible to steer the vehicle. Under these
conditions there will be a substantial increase in steering
effort, especially at low speeds and during parking
maneuvers.
• If the condition persists, see your authorized dealer for
service.

Thanks for the detailed reply. This is quite helpful. Truck is going in for 3rd set of ready lift upper control arms as soon as parts arrive; I'll be mentioning this to them as well.
