Anybody know of a speaker upgrade kit for the non alpine system
Would you happen to have the part # for the mopar kickers?Yes you can get the Mopar kicker upgrade. Works pretty good. Had it in my 2015. Went custom install this time around.
No Kicker upgrade on the DT.......Yes you can get the Mopar kicker upgrade. Works pretty good. Had it in my 2015. Went custom install this time around.
The connectors might be different… I could take a look since I still have my old DS speakers and my DT speakers. No Kicker upgrade on the DT.......
What do you think of this combo? Most folks here go with Infinity or Kickers and are pleased with the results. You have to be conscious of the Front Door to Dash ohm imbalance and also Dash crossover... Otherwise the Dash speakers get overdriven and are too loud / bright.
Very nice break down! I fully agree with you.I am an audiophile... More so for home audio. What one person thinks of how a speaker sounds will be different from what another person thinks. Go to several mobile audio stores and listen to the speakers but keep in mind those speakers are filling a large room and not small cab space of a truck. Also PEI tweeters are horrible for audio quality. Silk or cloth tweeters usually provide smooth highs. Metal tweeters sound good too but some can sound sharp or bright and can be hard on your ears especially during prolonged listening. So keep that in mind.
I do not like the KS series. The highs are very muddled and the mid bass is muddy and not punchy enough for my taste. Alpine type S is pretty good but they don’t go very low but have a nice midbass and smooth highs after they’ve broken in.
My last truck I did have the Mopar kicker upgrade but it was wearing on me. The tweeters were a little bright and the mid bass was muddy for prolonged listening but definitely better than the paper speakers that came with it originally.
I went with Cerwin Vega 6x9’s in the rear doors and treated the doors. The front doors are also treated and I am in the process of finalizing the install of Cerwin Vega tweeters in the sail panel and 6 1/2’s in the doors with JL Audio crossovers. Nothing in the dash.
You do get full audio signal from the dash speakers and full audio signal from the door speakers. If you don’t mind having high frequencies also coming from your knees as well as the dash then throw a set of 6x9’s front and rear and 3 1/2’s in the dash and call it a day.
Bass blockers are optional and only needed for the dash speakers - Personally I would want more of a full range so I would go with 150 hertz Blocker if I felt the need. The problem is most 3 1/2 inch speakers are very fragile. The most common in the rams are the JL audio C2 and they definitely need a bass blocker. They sound great. I do like the tweeter but I’ve had a full set of those in a different car and I wasn’t as impressed for the money.
Personally the front doors whether using 6x9’s or 6 1/2‘s need to be two way components with crossovers.
Thank you. Speakers and hifi are a passion of mine.Very nice break down! I fully agree with you.
I went with the Infinity speakers for doors and dash(I have the Alpine system) and i love the way they sound. The Silk-dome tweeter really makes a HUGE difference compared to PEI!
I'm an audiophile too. My last sound system had a few sets of Focal KRX-2 and Audison amp.... That's all i'm gonna say about it... I miss itThank you. Speakers and hifi are a passion of mine.
I usually gravitate towards the silk domes. The Cerwin Vega’s I have are my first titanium dome tweeter. They have a nice sizzle to them and are smooth like a silk dome but not overly harsh like an aluminum dome. I’m going to run them for a while. They are unique and have a nice well-rounded sound. I like good sound in a vehicle but don’t get carried away because a car or truck Is not a good environment for real audio quality.
I’m glad you like the infinity Speakers. They are nice as well. I’ve used them in the past but it’s been probably 15 years since my last set of Infinity kappa’s.
I’m going to pick up another Jetta or 330i (stick shift) as a commuter so I don’t kill my truck. I’ll probably do something a little more trick in that with either Morel or Audio Frog 3way component speakers
