So would going to a 34” tire with a 3.92 have the potential to increase mpg at highway speeds? Or would the added weight negate the effect?
Depends on the tire, there are 34” tires that weigh less than 55 lbs and there are 34” tires that weigh 67 lbs. The lighter tire in similar to stock diameter could improve your mpg by lowering your rpms at highway speeds.

Makes sense. I wonder if the increased diameter would negatively effect mpg enough around town to offset gains made at highway speeds (obviously, the ratio of city/hwy matters here). I’ve been considering something like a terra grappler G2 in 275/65 r20 when it’s time for new tires. The only thing making me hesitant is worry about the hit to mpg.

I went to 33" tires that are 7lbs heavier than the stock 20" bridgestones and have seen zero MPG change.
The larger tire's effect on RPM's seems to negate the heavier unsprung weight for a net zero change.

Nice. What tire and size did you go with? Do you have a lift? Thanks

First highway trip with my 2021 5.7 etorque, 3:21. Truck now has 650 miles, so not even broke in. I never drove over 60 and when I got home the trip mpg is at 22.7! I’d guess it’s closer to 21.5 but I think that good, all factory, not pulling anything! 87 cheap gas!

I am normally a very aggressive driver. I've had the truck now for about 3 weeks so I wanted to see what my mileage would be if I drove half-a$$ normal. I am AVERAGING 12mpg which is quite a surprise to me. Obviously I didn't buy this for gas mileage but I really thought I would get better than that.

Don't pull a boat or anything. No hills as I live just south of Houston and bone stock truck with the 5.7 Hemi.

Since I bought my truck back in March 2020 I have been tracking the real-world MPG. I know this has been talked about before but I wanted to throw out my 2 cents Fwiw, Some comments below:
  • When I bought the truck I was hoping to average 18 mpg.
    • Currently Averaging 15.90 mpg after 5750 miles, I believe I am past engine break-in period, just need to get a first Oil change done
    • This was considering the gearing and additional weight for my truck
  • I opted the extra $$ for the E-Torque (yes I know it's unproven, but as an engineer, it had my attention and curiosity)
    • As people have stated on this forum before there is the belief the E-Torque actually decreases Mpg, I am beginning to think this may be true as potentially the Electric motor is not disengaging as it should, requiring the Hemi to work harder leading to less mpg
    • The Auto start/stop isn't that bad honestly
  • "Don't expect to get good mpg in that big truck, you idiot!"
    • I drive like a grandpa, never accelerate fast and if I can use cruise control I will
      • I have read the Hemi gets better Mpg when you accelerate hard so I have been considering giving it a try.
    • I would hope to be somewhat close to the sticker...
    • My father averages better than the sticker on his F150 (16',23.4mpg, 2.7EB, 2wd,45k miles)
  • I understand Mpg will vary truck to truck spec to spec and most sticker mpg rating systems are flawed
    • If this is true then give me a more realistic estimate of what I will achieve, just be honest up front.
  • "Bro! I average 23mpg in my rebel lifted blah blah blah"
    • Track the numbers as I have and prove it to me.
  • The game of premium fuel, technically the engine is optimized for 89 but can run 87
    • I am still testing out different fuels to see if the price difference is worth the extra mpg.
Overall I love my truck, I just wish Ram was more upfront about the Mpg values because at the end of the day we all pay at the pump.
  • Some key things about my truck
    • Completly stock
    • Crew Cab 4x4
    • 6'4" Bed
    • 5.7 E-Torque
    • 3.92
    • Off-Road Group
    • Air Ride (truck will drop to Aero Mode)
    • 33gal tank
    • GVWR (7100 lb)
    • Max payload (1172 lb)

I don't have nearly as detailed information as you but I am averaging 22.5 on the highway and about 16 in town. I have a 2020 crew cab laramie with the hemi, no e-torque, 3.21 gears, 4x4 and 20 inch wheels, no tonneau cover yet. My last fill had 468 miles on the odometer and I put in 21.5 gallons (over squeezed too).

I just did a 2070 mile road trip loop from Oregon through Nevada and Southern CA and back home. Extra 600lbs in/on the truck. Was averaging over 19 until I caught a wicked headwind for 8 hours between Santa Clarita and Redding at 80mph cruise. Total trip average was 17.6

Looks great! Are those hankook AT2 or ATM? I’m also thinking of leveling and putting this size tire
Hankook AT2.
The combo of bringing the front up a little bit and adding these larger more aggressive tires makes the truck look more like a truck, while only affecting the ride slightly. MPG hasn't changed in any noticeable way either.

I switched tires to 275/60/20 Cooper Discovery AT3 and lost about 1 MPG

95% stop and go suburban driving is around 12.8 MPG.

Last highway vacation trip I was at 20 mpg

I just picked up my 2019 5.7 a couple of weeks ago.
My 15 that I traded was the 3.0 eco diesel when I got this truck it was abit over a 300 mile round trip.
My eco diesel was 25-26 mpg, my new 5.7 on the return trip got 18.1 mpg on the same roads at the same speeds.
Mostly just a bit over 60 mph.
They were both 3.92 geared trucks the eco diesel was running LT245/75-17s, the hemi is on LT275/65-18s.
My eco diesel averaged 18-22 mpg for my normal running around, this hemi is at 15-16mpg.

Exhaust is still stock but she does have a nice rumble when you get on it or loaded going up a hill.
But the little eco would pull hills and loads almost as good, and the bottom end was better.

I have a 2019 1500 Big Horn 4x4. I have found I get better mileage when I am a little heavier on the pedal. Get up to speed a little quicker and then ease off. I have tracked 23,854 miles on Fuelly and have an overall of 17.6 MPG, probably 40% city streets. 3.21, Hemi, no eTorque.
I have the same setup and agree with this driving style. I normally use about half throttle to get up to speed.
