Solved: Dead Battery, instrument panel light stays on all night

"My Truck Just Used All The Gas Your Prius/Tesla Saved, Thanks"
Really? I have a 2020 Ram I love, and a 2005 Prius that is indeed easy on fuel and also extremely reliable. I'm smart enough to use each vehicle appropriately, and appreciate each for what it does well. Your in-your-face-political attitude is entirely unwarranted, and it frankly diminishes you, my friend.

Is your key fob hanging within rf range of the truck at night?
No- both fobs live in the kitchen drawer. Oddly it’s happened more at work where I park in a garage that’s 9 stories below me.

I don't speak for the admins, I speak only for myself. 5thgenrams is a great website partly because political rhetoric and politically-oriented opinions are not welcome and are generally not displayed here. Why? Because people get way too much of that everywhere else, and they enjoy a website that is pleasant, helpful & supportive, and on-point, rather than going off-track with the snarky and political.

It's a free country, if you choose to sully 5thgenrams with your politically-oriented tag-line, so be it. But IMO it's unnecessary, uncalled-for, inappropriate for this particular website, and it only detracts from the generally pleasant, helpful atmosphere the 5thgenrams website's owners, admins and subscribers have created here. It's a **** move, but you're free to display it if that's how you choose to be perceived and the admins don't care.

Nothing personal, and you clearly have excellent taste in trucks ;-) I just appreciate the informative, helpful & congenial yet non-political, non-snarky personna of 5thgenrams, so I try to do my part to help preserve that. Sometimes that rubs a few folks the wrong way, but the majority seem to appreciate doing what it takes to maintain an apolitical dialog.

If this was a Prius forum, I would agree with you. If you're an offended Prius owner, you can do 2 things:

1). Don't read his signature.
2). Click on your username in the upper right corner, then click on "preferences", "content options", then uncheck the box where it says, "Show people's signatures with their messages".

My post is not political it is just pointing out i dislike electric cars but am ok with them so i can use the fuel.

and it is you who keeps bring it up.

I’m having the same problem. 2021 limited longhorn with 12” screen. First time the dealer just replaced the battery, it’s done this again 4 more times, has needed a jump start. Dropping off at the dealer, let’s see if they can figure it out.
Was the dealer able to find anything? I think what I have is the same thing:

Why not just change your signature to say
“My Prius just saved all the gas your hungry hemi used like a fat woman at a $5 buffet”

See? …….Not….. political……🤷🏻‍♂️……

Having a sense of humor is a very valuable trait. I find the signature hilarious.😆

What I find funny is that I consider my EcoDiesel Pickup to actually be MORE fuel efficient than a Prius!
A 5400lb + vehicle, ultra-comfortable, sunroof bigger than a Prius, huge back seat, luxury components that rival top-end Cadillacs, and the capability to tow and haul anything you might need. Ride comfort that is second to none. You can easily spend 150K on a luxury vehicle and not get a more refined ride. All weather capability with a 4-wheel drive system, air ride suspension, and again, comfort that is better than sitting in your easy chair all while going 70 MPH down the interstate.

All this returning 30+ MPG and 900+ miles of range per tank easily on HGWY trips!

The compact Prius weighs a little over 3000lbs, can't tow, can't haul 1000 lbs of cinder blocks, and has an interior with 40% less room than the Ram and it only gets 50MPG and 500-600 miles of range per tank. Compact ride feel, and slower 0-60 times than the bulky Ram.

When you compare MPG to mass Prius did a poor job with Fuel Economy compared to the Ram EcoDiesel!

Of course, I am pulling this all out of my a** and am probably completely wrong 😁 but I feel Ram achieving 30 MPG with a bulky pickup truck is much more impressive than Toyota's compact Hybrid only getting 50MPG. Ram engineers win this one hands down IMO.

I am not against Electric cars by any means and I would buy the Ram Electric Truck or another brand once they can get 500 Miles of real-world range. Electric is fast and fun to drive. A different experience and though fast snappy gas/fuel engines will always be my first love there are $120,000 EV's out there that will beat a 3.5 Million dollar Bugatti from 0-60!

Was the dealer able to find anything? I think what I have is the same thing:

So far, they have replaced the battery and just replaced the radio module. They think the radio is failing to power off and that’s draining the battery. What I noticed was that the screen would clear but occasion keep the backlight on when I powered off. Those were always the days I’d have a dead battery. Fingers crossed this solves it.

I agree that the EcoDiesel is a great vehicle, I love mine. But driving an unloaded diesel 7 miles to work every day is poor use of a diesel, and will eventually ruin it. So I putt to work and back and do my short-trip town errands in the 18 year old Prius and use the Ram for hauling construction/landscaping materials, or when I have more passengers, and for longer trips. I don't drive a Prius for anyone but myself, because I know how to choose the proper tool for a given job, and I know how to calculate what provides the greatest bang for the buck and saves me the most money. The only retirement I have is what I'm saving now, so I try to be intelligent and responsible about it all. And I don't think this type of forum needs any politics thrown into the conversations, ever. But some people just can't stay on point with the subject matter at hand, they feel the need to puff themselves up a bit in front of their friends (not saying that about you). Congratulations on achieving 30 MPG with your EcoDiesel, the best I've gotten so far are a few tanks at 28 MPG.

I'm right with you! Just to be clear I think the Prius is a great car and not picking on it at all. I just think it is astounding they can achieve the milage they do on these heavy completely non-aerodynamic trucks.

I was commuting about 37 miles one way to work up until 5 years ago. Back 7 or 8 years ago I looked at used Prius's but the prices on those are crazy! Ones with 300K on them that were used as Taxis in the city were bringing 3- 4K. It's crazy how they hold their value. If you tried to buy a 2-3 year old one with under 30K on it you might as well just buy a new one. I ended up buying a 2012 Chevy Volt with 30K on it for just under 15K. I drove that for a few years and when I moved 5 years ago to only 6 miles from work I sold it as if you let that thing sit it always seemed to throw a CEL for some reason and honestly gas cost wasn't an issue as I started riding my bike to work for exercise and the truck can sit for days and not be driven now. In update NY I really like a 4-wheel drive for the winter so the truck is perfect even on a short commute.

I did just pick up a used Mustang EcoBoost Convertible though and it is a fun little car to drive and pulls 36 MPG on HGWY trips. I won't drive it in the winter but it replaces my motorcycle I sold a couple of years back for my open-air vehicle for summer relaxation! The diesel sits a lot in the summer now but boy it's comfort can't be beaten. Sometimes driving the Ford I am 1 hour into a 4-hour trip and wishing I drove the truck as the ride on the Ford isn't even remotely close!

Just an update, I just picked up my truck this morning and the instrument gauge goes off after 5 minutes or so. They had to replace my radio frequency hub under warranty just in case someone else has this problem in the future.
I know this is an old post, but with your issue was your Uconnect screen acting like it was turning off and then the backlight staying on? I’m having this issue now, I exit truck the instrument panel has just the symbol to start truck press brake and touch button and my 12” screen just has the backlight on - this goes off and on constantly, it drained my battery completely. Never seen this before; 2019 ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 5.7L

What is the solution to this? My truck is doing the exact same thing . Screen are on just the backlight on the 12" screen and draining the battery.

Hi MJP,

Im having the same issue, my dealer replaced my battery went to pick it up today dead. wanted to leave it for them to further diagnois it and was declined saying there was nothing more they can do. for the amount of money we spend on these trucks we should not be having issues like this.
