Re-resurrecting this old post because it hits first on a Google search for this topic. I wanted to offer a solution that worked for me regarding the truck not finding a spot.
A few observations while putzing around with this feature on my 2020 RAM 1500 Limited:
-Parking sensors need to be clean and functional.
-The Active ParkSense appears to only use the sonar sensors.
-You don't have to use the turn signal in order for the system to function but you do if you are parking on the left side.
-There needs to be a few cars in the row. If there are several wide open spaces it will not work.
- There does not need to be a car on both sides (as in one open spot) as others said, but there does need to be one car on one side (obviously)
-The biggest problem I found is that I was driving too fast past the open spots. In most situations you have people behind you and you feel rushed and speed up...well it won't work then. If you think it was working and wasn't try again and slow down...I mean really slow down. I found that Active ParkSense only detects a spot around 2-3mph. It feels unnatural to be going that slow past a parking spot but the sensors need to be able to gather the distance data.
-It's really nice for parallel parking and having to back into a tight spot, but probably will frustrate people behind you in a really crowded parking lot due to the slow approach. I honestly will rarely use this unless I have to park in a very challenging spot.
