Self driving 1500 limited

The company Comma AI, owned by George Hotz (The original Iphone and PS3 Jailbreaker) makes the hardware and the software is open source so anybody can contribute and add vehicles to make Open Pilot (the software) work with them! I have just gotten it to work for any 2019+ RAM 1500 with LaneSense and Adaptive Cruise Control. It takes the level 1 self driving and turns it into level 2 self driving. As good as or arguably better than Tesla Autopilot. And the self driving part is constantly getting updates with better driving models by Comma.

The truck I currently have it on is my own and it is a 2021 Limited with Level 1 equipment group. And my dealer said they would still cover warranty related problems as long as it is not caused by the hardware I added.

will you or Comma AI be selling the harness? I have the Comma AI for my toyota and would love to use it on my 2021 Ram 1500.

How does one go about doing this? I don't see the Ram option on their website.

Right now RAM is a community supported port not officially supported by Comma. What I will be doing for a little bit if you don't feel comfortable building the wiring harness yourself is building them for people if they send them to me. I am trying to get a lot of attention to the RAM port because it is the first full size truck that is available for Open Pilot and I believe Comma will take notice and officially support it if we make enough buzz about it. https://github.com/commaai/openpilot/wiki/FCA This is the wiki page that has the link to what will be needed. Also reach out on the discord (this is what Comma staff monitor) with any questions or comments. https://discord.com/channels/469524606043160576/525364884410728462

at $1000 I would want some more real life proof that it works on the 1500....that being said, I'm interested!
Think of it like Apple vs Android. Tesla Autopilot is Apple, all of their hardware is specially made by Tesla and the software is kept behind a lock and key and it is all proprietary information to Tesla. Comma is the android because their hardware is literally a smartphone with 3d printed brackets that mount to your windshield (very heavy duty). And all of their software is open source even though they put a lot of work into it. It is very ingenious to me because they get to leverage the multi billion dollar research and development of the smartphone industry and build their self driving hardware with that. I trust the software as much if not more than tesla, but this is an alpha level system (hasn't made it to beta testing yet haha) so you have to be careful and always pay attention. This also blows Ford Copilot 360 out of the water with how well it drives, and you can use Open Pilot on any road in the world!

This is interesting. Definitely going to pull the code down and review. Would be on board but don't have ACC on the truck.

Awesome, great job @Upandaway420! This is something I"m excited to try out myself at some point. With this being a community port, do we know what bugs or potential bugs or other issues may be present compared to the officially supported version?

I'll note that Consumer Reports rated the Comma.ai/OpenPilot system higher in their independent testing over Tesla's Autopilot and GM's SuperCruise. They didn't recommend it due to this caveat:
A determination was made to include the Comma Two Open Pilot system manufactured by Comma.ai. Although Consumer Reports does not endorse after-market modifications to all consumers, we feel that it is important to include the test results in this report to the industry

How much would you charge for the harness?

So at this point we don't conform to commas strict safety standards to how much torque is allowed to be applied to sthe steering wheel and other panda safety stuff that is written in C++ and it is a pain to get everything to work nicely in the firmware how Comma wants it done. But we don't touch any of the self driving code. It's only interfacing Open Pilot to the truck essentially.

Am definitely interested in this, but it's way over my head...

Just a poor dumb mechanical engineer

Can you elaborate a little more on what is required? You add the camera, harness, and software but it can be integrated into the ACC and Lane Sense? Also I'm out of town right now so I don't have my truck, but what is that yellow light flashing?

the main hard ware you buy from comma.ai (https://comma.ai/shop/products/comma-two-devkit) and you will buy the comma 2 and the development car harness (no connectors). https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=...!150819&parId=9F326E228C8C4419!150787&o=OneUp from that document you will need to buy the camera side female housing 3-2098269-1 (I bought mine off of mouser.com). I have the DuPont connectors and pins left over from when I built my harness. The flashing light is from the frame rate of the cell phone camera makes it appear to flash, it is the auto climate control button and I swear it does not flash in person. Lol. Also the front camera is a mirror image which is why the truck appears to be right drive. https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetai...ulp3V8zca8sdMkHFtvEhOH%2BqaVTjBXXmgzRYmeDdg== this is the camera plug you'll need.

I just remembered if you want to join the discord you have to accept the invite link located at discord.comma.ai. Then you will be a member of the Comma discord community.
