Seized lug nuts

I've been taking off and putting on wheels for over 60 years. I've never used a torque wrench and have never had any issues. I just use a common 4-way wrench and tighten in a star pattern by feel. Check after 50 or so miles. I understand the need for an installer to cover their butts and suspect the manufacturer includes the spec in order to cover theirs also. To me, this spec seems like the answer to a question that should never have been asked.

i think the recommended torque spec is for people to have an actual, effective, and standardized way to communicate how tight the lugnuts are supposed to be, especially for those who lack experience to be able to tell how tight it is through ugga dugga or through 4-way wrench.

you've been doing this for over 60 years, so you have experience and can do it by feel, I know my tools so I can tell by how many ugga duggas. But I still use a torque wrench just to have that peace of mind, especially on customers' cars and they're watching.

Experience is where it's at so i understand lol i mean, they even give torque specs for drain plugs and fill plugs, but i've never actually use a torque wrench for that lol it's all by feel. same with UCA bolts for me.
 
A little update, the wheels are Raceline Wheels and their required lugnuts. When the lugnuts sheared off, it was at the end of the splines leaving the seat of the lug nut in the wheels. The tire store drilled out the studs and in the process, they damaged a tone ring on the passenger side axle and the wheel speed sensor. The ABS light, parking brake light, crash sense light, and traction control light were on when I picked up the truck. They tried to diagnose the problem with a code scanner, but did not have the correct access to the computer. I had it towed to the dealership and that's when they found the damaged tone ring and while in the rear end, the outer bearing on the differential were damaged. They think it is because of the rear end binding up from the bad signals from the sensors. The rear end felt like it had a locker in it when I picked up the truck and the 4x4 system was inactive and felt like it was fully engaged!
holy smokes that's f*cked up.
i hope tire shop picks up the bill.

Wow, that’s bad! Wheels are replaceable cheap and easy compared to truck parts. Morons
