I have experienced my first significant failure on my 2022 Ram Limited. Last Tuesday, when leaving work to go to my truck, I went to remote start and nothing happened. As I got closer I then just tried to unlock and nothing. I had to use the manual key to unlock and then the alarm starting blaring and truck would not start or any buttons would work inside. I held the fob to the start button an no bueno. I tested my battery and it was 12.9V and I had wife bring me my spare key and same thing.

I had to tow this thing to the dealership and have determined this is the RF hub failure. My truck is a 22' so not sure if the rear window leak is still an issue on my year but the day this happened was 70 degrees and sunny. I also felt back around rear window and back carpet for moisture but did not feel anything. This was brief as the alarm was blaring and I was waiting on a tow truck. Fast forward to today and the dealer finally started working on it and i got a video from mechanic stating both key fobs are fine and he will be replacing the RF hub.

I suspected this was issue from the moment symptoms began so no surprise here. However, when I called the dealer to inquire more about lead time, the service advisor stated they will also need to order a new BCM which is apparently on BO and he does not know when this will be in. I'm still waiting on a new radio from the dealer that was ordered back on 10/2025 and still nothing. My stomach is upside down thinking about this as they dont even have any loaners they can provide.

I'm sure my warranty will cover this but my question to the forum is, if the RF hub fails, does this usually take out the BCM with it? I still dont know if this is precautionary or standard when the RF hub fails?

No matter what, when this is all said and done, I think I will be moving away from Ram. Something this new and expensive should not be leaving me stranded. Not saying a GM or Ford wont do the same but between this, the radio, and the fact the truck only has 20,XXX miles and I'm having this much of an issue, I will take these signs and move on.

Unfortunately, all new vehicles are completely controlled by computers. One glitch and your vehicle can be rendered useless for a long period of time. This is some scary stuff. I have a 2022 as well, and am quite often on pins and needles just waiting for something bad to happen.

They can use a BCM out of a 2023/2024 model.

When the RF hub failed in my '21 (had to also have it towed after ticking off the neighbors with the alarm blaring 4x) they did not have to replace the BCM.

Do you know if the BCM is automatically prone to failure if the RF hub fails? I have seen many others have the RF Hub fail and replacement/reprogramming seemed to fix it. With that said, I spoke with a manager and told them to replace the RF hub, reprogram and if its still not resolved, you win and I will wait for a new BCM. They did agree to trying just the hub today and we will go from there.

Manager went out of his way to state its all covered under warranty which was never really a worry of mine, its the fact I have 2 kids in daycare and need my vehicle which they dont have any to offer.

I will post an update once the hub has been replaced in case anyone here experiences something similar.

So after getting a manager on the phone and telling him to replace the RF hub without worrying about the BCM, low and behold I have my truck back. I don't even want to think about how long I would have been waiting for a BO'd BCM... However, they never actually root caused the issue and wondering if I have the leaking rear window issue. I will be looking hard this evening for any cracks or opportunities for water to leak but this happened on a sunny dry day. Doesn't mean its not related to a leaking window but will be adding some clear silicone regardless. I'm still going back and forth in my head if I want to dump this truck and flip the coin on another new truck with more failure prone electrical parts or roll the dice a while longer with this one. I hate to be a Debbie downer as I know many of you love your new Rams and I was one of them. The fact that my previous vehicles were highly modified and one of a kind, is why I wanted to go with a newer stockish truck since I now have 2 young daughters and figured I needed something new and reliable. I sold my BMW M5 with a built motor from RK Autowerks pushing over 700 to the rear wheel for this truck. Before that I had my twin turbo Duromax (built trans) with over 800hp and neither of those vehicles ever left me on the side of the road.

Rant over, I dropped off my daughter at school today so thats a win and I will check this evening if I have the cracked rear window housing.

It is sad but they are all kind of like this , ford is recalling a vehicle from every line they have , chevy cant build a motor , very frustrating, My sons 2025 chev rst 4x4 ECM went out 12k miles just quit ,

Some of the early 2022’s still had the old window design, but it was primarily the 2021’s and older that have the leaks. What’s the date on your window sticker? It’s a small code near the bottom left that looks something like this (which is 12/6):

Sorry to hear that. This should not be such a common occurence with these newer vehicles.

Honestly, when I was shopping for this truck, I knew Ford had more recalls then any company combined, and if I went back to GM, I would have gotten the 6.2 and we know how that story is playing out. I thought I picked the best option but I realize its just the way it is these days.

My truck was built in August of 2022. I did finally get ahold of the tech and he told me he found moisture on my hub. I then asked did you happen to look at the rear window and of course the answer was no. I had too much going on last night to take a closer look but will be following up ASAP to see what the culprit is.

I appreciate the zip lock bag tip. I did get some time last night to look through all the possible areas for moisture entry, and to be honest I did not see anything that stood out, or any signs of previous entry. I did end up basically caulking the rear windshield with an auto glass sealant to help give me a little more piece of mind. I will do the bag trick as well for a little extra assurance.

I will say its going to take some time to have confidence with this truck. This was the type of failure that gives no warning and completely left me stuck. I still enjoy the truck but think I will be picking up a 3rd vehicle for the just in case. I do have a couple bikes I can ride but that doesnt help me when taking the kiddos to school. One thing for sure, my 3rd vehicle will not be anything newer that requires dealer tools only to diagnose and repair (for the most part)...
