Retractable Front Air Dam

I was underneath the truck adding factory tow hooks to my 4x4 when I saw this:


After some research I found this:

I did not realize that this was a standard option on all of the new RAMS.
It was also in the way to remove the bolts for the tow hooks.
Apparently it engages at 38 MPH.

I did that first thing...

The bolt is just so long when it comes down the slide it hit the air dam.

Has anyone removed theirs? Hit a racoon and it ripped off. A new one is $415.00 and I can only seem to find the entire assembly (68274406AF), not just the broke plastic parts.
