Rear fender flares getting blasted

I have a 2022 Ram 1500 Limited, crew cab,4wd. I’m experiencing the rear fender flares and front edge of the rear fenders getting pitted and it sandblasted the paint and peeled away the factory paint protection film. The dealer painted the flares once and it’s happening again. I have Husky mud flaps front and rear. Anyone else experience this? Factory tires and wheels. I’m seeing it more as I drive on highways with snow and ice and sand/salt on the road.

Yep, mine as well. Same flaps and model truck. Fortunately mine aren't that bad yet.

That's the problem with the wide hips this truck has. The stones and debris flinged from the front tires will do that without protection.

The only fix is either factory (or factory style) flat, stationary running boards or PPF the rear quarter and fender flares.

Mud flaps are only going to protect a few feet behind the flap, will do very little for the rear quarter. With stationary running boards, you will mostly fix this issue.

The truck came with PPF from the factory. It was peeled off by the debris.

RAMCARES - any fix?

Either it wasn't done well or you drive on very rough substrate. Either way, after the repair, you may need both PPF and running boards combined.

The truck comes with the retracting running boards. Hate to swap them out for fixed ones

I always get side bars/steps on my trucks. Guess that’s why I never experienced this.

Better PPF something thicker like Xpel.. the factory film is super thin. Not saying this will eliminate it but just a suggestion.

Probably your only permanent fix if you run on a heavy gravel road a lot, the Xpel suggested is good stuff, but not sure how anything can last long at those conditions.

Also, aftermarket paint typically takes 30 days to cure, it's suggested you wait at least that long before you can add PPF. Not sure if you have that kind of time if this is your daily.

The only option I see for you is to repair the paint, install stationary running boards and PPF after the paint cures for extra protection, though you may not need it. Either you put on those stationary running boards or you stop driving on those roads, that's pretty much the bottom line.

Never experienced that with either of my rams, one with fixed and the other retractable. I occasionally drive on dirt roads but no evidence of this. Both trucks had Weather tech flaps.
What are the tires? Is it possible the tread pattern picks up and flings more road dirt than another?

My 21 Laramie is doing the same thing, not as bad as yours yet, I have weather tech mud flaps. I drive gravel a few times a year, I try to slow down and lower my truck to aero level, so it’s a little closer to the ground when driving these surfaces! Worst vehicle I’ve ever seen for this issue😥 I think the paint is very weak in these new rams as a whole!

Tires are the OEM, Bridgestone 20”. The truck has never seen a dirt or gravel road.

I put a set of Gatorback mudflaps on my truck when I got it. Set them out as wide as I could, they stick out about 1/2 inch past the fender flare. Along with the full length running boards, not retractable, I'm not having trouble anything near like you are.

Wow, now that's surprising. I usually only see that level of sand blasting paint on trucks driving mostly gravel roads.

How is the rest of the paint on your truck, are you noticing nicks and chips on the front, maybe also more than normal? I wonder if you have a general paint issue?

Wow - They must use a LOT of sand on those roads! Seems like fixed boards or drive different roads might be your only options
