I'm getting old but the rule used to be 10 for 0.1

In other words you need 10 hp at the wheels to lose 0.1 seconds in a 1/4 mile, but this is a heavy beast so the rule may not apply

I will say this though..back in the late 60's early 70's, most of the "muscle cars" ran in the low 14's..with a few maybe cracking into the high 13's. Chargers, Chevelle SS's,(non LS-6), Road Runners etc. I used to drag race occasionally at New England Dragway in the mid 1970's..no street cars ever ran faster than 12's. So when you think about the stock performance of a RAM 5.7 in a TRUCK, running 14's....to me that's pretty impressive. We've come a long way baby!

Having done heads and cam then stroker motor on my Z06, I can tell you this, BOOST.
Don't waste money on heads and cam, you'll get an improvement but at the cost of drivability in an already heavy truck.

Your powerband will move up the rpm scale and make the truck lazy., my Z06 is 3000 lbs so this wasn't an issue but it was also offset by adding a 434 ci stroker bottom end. Unless you're going to do that in the Ram, you will lose some drivability. You will more importantly lose reliability as you'll be asking to valvetrain to do more.

Boost (a PD blower, not a centri) is far friendlier and will add more power than the cam but will also add drivability. I'd get a whipple or similar
And keep some cash $$ aside to replace tranny or motor in case you enjoy the boost too much! It happens. At least its not a diesel... Big bucks there.
The old saying, “you gotta pay to play” comes to mind.

Idk if I missed it, if you cam route you will need a stall converter to match it to get all potential out of cam. Bigger cam and stall will also hurt lower end on daily driving.

Back in the day, a 900/1000cc motorcycle when set up properly could get into the 12's. The power to weight ratio was really good. I think it will be pretty hard to get a 5600 lb truck into that neighborhood. How much money you got is the question.

13s-12s is not hard for a daily driver with track prep, build set up and tune. And yes every sec cost $$$. I do agree, in this case weight is forsure the factor!!
Hemi is way turned back stock. When there is a honest & reliable 20-35plus bp/trq to wheels with little mods or not even and tuner that knows what they are doing. FBO & tuning peeps are seeing even more. I am very impressed what a stock lower half 5.7 block can handle. Even how well stock heads flow.

my 05 1000rr did mid-low 10s and I sucked riding it lol, was my first track runs with it. Wheelies in first and second gear. Scary, but fun...ahh the days of young and dumb
