Any of you use radar detectors? If so do you recommend a solid brand?

Valentine One. Best one I've ever used.
Love that I have it connected via ODBC for power draw and Bluetooth dongle, so it's integrated into my iPhone with the V1Driver App. Powers on and off automatically with the engine.

+ 1 on the Valentine One. I have three of them and have used them for the last 7 years. Can't say enough good things about them.

I just got done wiring in my Valentine 1 to my fuse box. Pretty easy, glad I don't have cables dangling everywhere...

I use the Escort 9500ix. Have had amazing luck with it. It is extremely reliable with radar and laser. I refuse to anything but an Escort product. I also have it hooked up to my iPhone through the bluetooth for live alerts also.

Gotta have the arrows, otherwise you've no idea of which direction signal origonates from/where to look; I've have three Val-1s, and have been using them exclusively for maybe 20 years. They will also economically update the 'guts', within your existing detector.

Used to have a escort X50 i think it was that i bought 13 years ago. Did me solid the entire time just one to many times falling off the windshield and it finally gave out. Bought a Uniden I want to say R3 last year and its been good every since. Took me awhile to get use to it coming from an escort product but I have faith in the my radar detector.

I had been using a Valentine One I bought off ebay back in 2007 and LOVED It, the arrows are EXCELLENT. Sadly it was stolen back in June out of my old truck so I replaced it with a brand new Uniden R3 and been enjoining it. When I relocated for work in May I drove from Dallas, Texas to Detroit, Michigan with it and never once did the R3 give me a false signal!

All the reviews I had read the R3 is the best "bang for your buck" out there and has a little bit better range the the V1. With that being said, I think I still may pick up a new model V1 and put it in my wife's Durango so then have the best of both worlds!

I would say the ONLY downside to the R3 is loosing the arrows that the V1 has. If the arrows are not a must have for you I would pull the trigger on an R3.

Without the arrows, you’re driving blind. The V1 is the best there is in my opinion.

No video needed. Get the Valentine SAVVY (ODBC power option), and wire it under the door trim to the top of the windshield. I have mine wired that way, and also bought the Bluetooth dongle which connects to the SAVVY.
Really simple. Takes about 15 minutes. I’ll try to take some pics tonight if I can.

Cheers,

Here you go:

SAVVY plugs into ODBC, and has two RJ11 ports. One that powers the V1, and another one for an accessory, like the BT dongle.
I use bluetooth to connect the V1 to the 3rd party V1Driver app.

The SAVVY is great because you don't have to tap into a fuse, and it powers on/off with the truck.

Here are pics:

Are radar detectors still a thing? I thought in today's day and age, by the time your radar detector alerted you, more than likely the cops have already tagged you.

I just use WAZE and let eyes in front of me do the work. It's pretty effective....

While they can have limited help with laser, and zero help with VASCAR, they still provide a pretty good defense against traditional radar. I use my V1, Waze as @Royal27 mentioned, and good 'ol common sense with pretty good luck. But by no means is it foolproof.
