I don't know if it's intentional or a misunderstanding of the differences, but I see a lot of Profile Posts that look like they were intended to be a private message.
Profile Posts are public and visible to all.
If you want to send a private message, you need to use the "Start Conversation" button you'll see on a members profile page or hovering over their member name.
