Hi everyone, I’m second owner of a 2020 Ram 1500 with the 5.7, non-eTorque. Besides a couple quirks, it’s been an excellent vehicle for our family. I’ve been experiencing an unusual phenomenon in which my headlights burn out much quicker than I’d expect; I tend to lose one low beam bulb every 2 months or so. I’ve had 3 burn out since May of this year. I’ve been using Sylvania Silverstar Ultra H11’s as my replacement bulb. I was initially replacing them in pairs but it’s so frequent I’ve switched to just replacing them as they pop. There’s not one side that blows more than the other, it’s fairly consistently alternating sides.

Another unusual quirk is that usually at least once per drive, I feel what feels like a heavy relay click underneath the floor, and if it occurs when I’m driving at night it will make the lights surge. I’m assuming a voltage surge is happening somewhere, but I’m not finding any damaged wiring or heat damage anywhere to help narrow things down. There’s not one specific condition that seems to coincide with these surges, they can happen at any time during the drive and at any speed, but most often when off throttle or light throttle.

One factor I’m wondering if is a piece of the puzzle is that I’ve been using Gear Limit in 8th gear to bypass the MDS. I’ve wondered if bypassing that is causing the surges, but the surges we happening before I started doing this. Has anyone else experienced the heavy relay click, or frequently popping headlights, or both?

Could it be your voltage regulator having fits? I run this in my truck.
