I recently had a dealer repair under lifetime warranty for a Hemi tick on my 2019 RAM 1500 with just under 80,000 miles. They replaced the cam and lifters. I picked the vehicle up and noticed that after the repair the oil pressure was lower than before the repair. It was about 19 psi at warm idle and 38 psi under high rpms. Prior to the repair it was 25-30 psi at idle and over 50 psi at higher rpms. After driving it for about an hour the check engine light came on. On my way to take it back to the dealer to diagnose that I heard a pop followed by ticking when I went to pass someone. They said all this was due to a faulty part and had to replace the lifters again, not to mention it was leaking oil onto the exhaust pipe because they installed the valve cover gasket wrong.

Picked it up after the 2nd attempt at repair. This time it seemed fine except the oil pressure still seemed low to me, now around 20 psi at idle and about 40 psi under high rpms. They said it was within spec, which for the hemi is 4psi to 110psi (I think). On the 3rd day after picking it up this time the check engine light came back on. This time I got the code read and it was P1524, Oil Pressure Out of Range - Camshaft Advance/Retard Disabled. From what I am finding the VCT will not properly enable unless the oil pressure is 42 psi and to remain enabled the oil pressure cannot drop below 31 psi. My truck now rarely gets over 40 psi and that is only if I am at really high rpms. It frequently is around 25-30 psi when driving under normal conditions. I have a feeling I am about to get into a fight with the dealer, but the good news for me they have a history of dropping the ball on my repairs. Other than the oil leaking from the valve cover and one time not tightening my drain plug after an oil change it is usually simple stuff like forgetting to plug a power seat back up properly or leaving a bolt out of the console after repairs. They did forget to reattach the middle seatbelt in the rear seat once after taking it out to replace the rear window, that could have been bad if found under the wrong circumstances. So I will argue based on their history of dropping the ball they more than likely botched this repair as well and need to fix the issue.

Just wondering if anyone might have an idea what the issue could be after this repair and why the oil pressure is lower now? They claim they only use OEM parts.

damn, it sounds like that dealer has some younger techs working on it with the amount of stuff forgotten every time..

As a guess as to what is causing the issue, I think a cam bearing is not with in spec and is not keeping oil pressure where it should be.

sound like you need to go to a Ford dealer, maybe they will do a better job hahaha. joking a side I fill for you, hopefully this get resolve ASAP for you

Wonder if they messed up a cm bearing or two when swapping cams. Also, depending on what caused the initial issue if all they did was cam and lifters, there could have still been metal in the crankcase and damaged other bearings as well.
