Overland Prep Axe and Shovel mount

Ok, I've been trying to figure out how to mount these quick fist style mounts for shovel and axe in the bed of my rebel. Does anyone, smarter or more mechanically inclined than me have any ideas of a good way to do this without buying the bed utility rails? I want to mount it on the side though not the front like shown in the pic
