Opt7 sequential running board and turn signal light help

So I purchased a set of up 7 sequential running board and turn signal lights and installed one side on the truck. I disconnected the connector from the headlight I found the marker light and turn signal light and spliced into the harness with the red going to the marker and the yellow going towards the turn signal. I attached to the body ground and checked the function. The running board light stayed on and also functioned with the turn signal. When I plugged in the connector back into the headlight they no longer worked. Has anyone had that problem?
