Oil sensor

Anyone put a valvomax drain plug on a hurricane engine yet? I’m coming up to my first oil change and would live to install one with that change, but I’m not sure they sell one for the hurricane engine.

I bought a Votex, just waiting for 500-600 miles before I do my first oil change and install it.

See post 1 and 15, there are other members responding also from what I recall.

I don't know, and can't find it for the Hurricane, but don't exceed 35 ft/lbs. I know that's not much help, but I have a buddy who owns a shop and I'm going to ask him to look it up for me when I get a chance.

This is from:
When asked for a torque setting in the FAQ section.
"Because there are so many factors to consider in providing a torque value (oil pan material, presence of oil, torque wrench calibration), we recommend a good snug fit."

I don't think I have ever used a torque wrench on an oil pan drain plug, hell, any drain plug for that matter.

At least 2 or 3 ugga duggas from the impact gun, 4 to be safe. I switched to a 17 mm plug so I can really hammer it and crush the washer

Gotta make sure you have the high torque 1/2" impact. Not that wimpy 3/8"one

Some oil drain plugs torque settings.

Some info on torque settings and lubrication.

My take on the oil drain plug.
Torque settings are based on clean threads. If there is oil on the threads then the setting will need to be adjusted.
So
1. Clean the threads until there is no oil - good luck.
2. Make adjustments for the lubrication as per above - best wishes.
3. German version - Goodenuf (aka the empirical method) as per post 28

Note: #3 requires adjustment for muscle loss as time goes on. It also requires gorilla arms to tone it down.

Oil changes on the Hurricane are easier than the 5.7 I don't need ramps and the oil filter can be prefilled.
The only trick I've used is to put a 12" x 6" tray under the oil filter tilting back into my drain pan to keep the oil from dripping on the frame and it works perfectly.
Interesting note that the oil filter is the same as used on GM LS 5.3 & 6.2.

The downside is that you need 8 quarts since it takes 7.5 quarts of oil instead of 7 like the 5.7L did.

Anyone having oil sensor problems? Did first oil change. Filed as specified. Oil level indicator showed right at the correct level. A couple hundred miles later apparently some of the oil magically disappeared. Said add on quart. I added one quart. Oil level indicator didn't move. Added another quart, again nothing. At this point I am not adding another drop because if I blow the seals we all know Ram would point the finger at me and deny everything. I honestly have had enough of this truck. Like everyone else, love it when its actually right but why are we dealing with this stuff within the first few thousand miles. My truck was in the shop the first probably two months because they crushed the wire harness putting in the middle console which wrecked havoc with outlets and steering wheel lights. I truly regret buying it now. 2025 Ram 1500.

Did you ever figure out the sudden drop in the reading? Because today after sitting at 3/4 to max for at least 20 days (and a CA to NC and back trip) it just said its at minimum and requires 2 qts. Put 2 quarts in and no change as well

My owners manual does not explain the gauge of how to read it or illustrate a photo of the gauge explaining the marks at all. It is just simple wording the gauge will warn you as to when it needs oil changed and its based upon many factors and spends more time explaining factors as to what makes it decide oil needs changed than reading the gauge marks. Thank you for the post with the gauge photo and how it should read. Very helpful, My Ram is a 2025 Tungsten HO I-6.

mine sat at 1 bar below max from the factory and also after my first oil change.
That's the same with mine. Dealer changed oil 1700 miles, it's right on full mark with claim of 7 Quarts on the dealer fill sheet and cost. I love this truck and hate it does not have a dipstick.
