Was curious if this has happened to anyone else...

I noticed a good sized puddle underneath my truck yesterday, it was bone dry out - figured it was water from the AC. Upon further inspection when I got home it was definitely motor oil! I put the truck on the highest air ride setting and crawled under there to see what was leaking. The only thing that had oil on it was the oil filter and all the stuff underneath it! Odd, as I am about 4K miles into my last oil change and this is the first time I have seen leaking oil. I cleaned off the oil with a paper towel and was able to tighten the filter a little over a quarter of a turn.

I’m wondering if the filter started to vibrate loose since my last oil change. Anyone else have this issue?

I had the same thing happen on a ‘13 300 Hemi from a Walmart Oil Change. I never went there again. I have done all changes myself since and have never had a problem. Simply put, they did not tighten the filter properly.

I've done my own (and others) oil changes for over 40 years. I clean the seating surface, oil the gasket on the filter, and tighten 3/4 to 1 turn after contact. In the hundreds of oil changes I have done, none have ever loosened on their own. It was not tightened properly on installation. Another possibility could be the gasket from the last filter was not removed, but it probably would have leaked much sooner if that was the case.
