I received the following email from the folks at UConnect about my compass not working all the time:

"Hello Tim:

Thank you for your patience as I was looking into this issue for you.

Compass feature has been removed from the vehicles and the feature doesn't currently work.

You are always welcome to reply back to this email and we will respond back to you as promptly as we can. If you prefer, you can also call us directly with your questions at Ram Customer Assistance Center by calling 1-866-726-4636.

Sincerely,

Jody
Ram Customer Assistance Center"

So, obviously this is a lie since I'm pretty sure not all of you have inoperable compasses. Or has everyone's compass just stopped working??? Ridiculous!:mad::mad:

@RamCares , can you provide any assistance with this? When I replied to the above stated email, I got this:

"Dear TIMOTHY,
Thank you for contacting Ram Customer Care.

Our records indicate that case number 57686303 is closed.

If you require further assistance please contact us at Ram Customer Care and we would be happy to assist.

Thank you and have a great day.

My truck still knows where North is. Navigation would certainly suck if it can't figure out which direction you're pointed.

BS. Mine still works (at least for now).

I dont even know what they mean by that...

My compass was working just a few hours ago.

Seriously... wth do they mean?? Im baffled and befuddled.

I verified this tonight on my commute home, and it's still a workin'. I never realized until this exercise that the icon for NAV on the 12" UConnect changes heading to match the compass on the instrument cluster.

Yeah, I think the UConnect folks are a bit baffled and befuddled as well. And surprisingly, my compass worked for the first time in 2 weeks on my way to work this morning! Hopefully it continues working...

I was having problems with my iphone map apps on my ram with carplay. The maps would show my location as Virginia and I live in North Carolina. If my phone was disconnected from my truck carplay, my location was accurate on my phone maps. It did this with different iphones so it was not my phone. One day driving home from work, I notice my compass was indicating 180 degrees off my true bearing. I could not get the compass to reset with all the common troubleshooting. So I disconnected my battery for half an hour, reconnected and everything, to include iphone apps connected via carplay, worked properly. I hope this works for you.

In the passenger kick panel there is the antenna connection box for the Uconnect. Chances are one of the wires either popped off or isn’t plugged in all the way. Compass is done via gps. Pop the passenger kick panel off and make sure all those connections are secure. If you need a picture let me know. It if you remove the kick panel plastic. And look up toward the glove box you’ll see a box with about 3-6 antenna type wires on it. Push up on all of them and or jiggle them. I bet the gps antenna is not making a good connection.

For the person having car play issues. Make sure your location services are active for the app your using.

This sounds like something I will investigate tomorrow for sure! A picture would be great as well, just to make sure I'm digging around in the right place. Thanks!

So after inspecting the antenna assembly for loose wires and letting it sit disconnected from the battery for about 4 hours, still not working. Well, its not working full time, anyway. It worked for about 20 minutes on the way to work this morning.
But, I did get an actual phonecall from Jody (She sent the email in post 1) Sunday night. She must have received my reply because she apologized profusely for giving me the "no longer supported" line. According to her, that is as much consideration as the software engineers wanted to give to this matter. She has now stated that because I was "clearly unsatisfied" with their effort, she was having the case reopened. Maybe I will finally get some decent support after all, but I'm not holding my breath.

GPS can triangulate your position, but as far as I know it can't tell which direction you're facing. I think there's also a magnetic compass sensor. I can remember my GM vehicles getting confused and you had to reset it by driving figure 8s in a parking lot.
