With that said, i will continue to preach that the issues is pricing, not what powers the trucks. Not really interested in a v8 ram bare bones that starts at $55k.

Now if it was $45k well option truck, then I'm listening.

Pretty simple folks...lowest price gets my money. I like ford in what they are doing...they can give me 5 different engine options to choose from that's affordable. And I also have an $60k ev truck to start with.

I agree with what you said about pricing, but I like the relative simplicity of the 3rd gen Hemi engine. Even with its faults. I like working on my own vehicles once the warranty expires and the simpler the better lol.

The speculation is that the 5.7 is getting a minor update, possibly something like direct injection.

The other speculation is that part of why this is happening is because Ram wants to offer cheaper trucks, the hemi is cheaper to make than the hurricanes. So yes they'd probably be putting the 5.7 in simple trims.

I like options so this is great news. When it appeared the Hurricane was gonna be the only option going forward RAM was gonna lose me as a future customer. The future is bright again especially if they offer the Scat Pack version of the 6.4 or an updated 5.7 with more HP.

I have the 5.7 in my 2019 limited and I planned to keep it for the foreseeable future. Not attracted to the Hurricane engine in the least. I also have the Apache 6.4 in my 2023 Jeep 392 XR. I have grown to really like that 6.4 engine. If they offer the Apache in a Ram Limited going forward, I will probably trade my current truck in on one.

If they do update these Hemi’s with direct injection, I hope they integrate it with port injection as well, so we don’t have the carbon issues typical of DI engines. A combination Direct & Port injection architecture is used in my wife’s Genesis GV70 and I like it.

+100 Direct injection without port injection would be an automatic 'nope' for me. No interest in regular cleaning of intake.

I doubt DI would be one of the minor changes for the 5.7 Hemi, mainly because I wouldn't consider that to be a minor change. Converting to dual injection would be more complex yet. But if that (DI) were to happen I would be fine with it. My 2014 F150 with the 1st gen 3.5 EcoBoost engine has almost 130k miles on it and there is zero indication that it needs a decarbonization service. It idles smoothly and has plenty of power. I do have a catch can installed and that probably helps a lot. Eventually I probably will have to clean the intake valves if I keep this for the long term. But even if I had to do that tomorrow I wouldn't consider 130k miles to be "regular cleaning".

Sure it would take some cost cutting (no leather, sunroof, 12” screen, e torque, air suspension etc etc etc but if they could do it, wow would they sell some units.
You don’t have to make multi-thousands on every truck sold.

i come from a time when Chevrolet ran basically the same small block with minor improvements for over 45 years. if it ant broke don't fix it.
the only reason the hurricane got developed is because emissions not because it was "better" clearly it really don't get better mpg's than the hemi and it's much more complicated.
i guess Ram is better than Chevrolet with a base motor in a full size truck being a turbo 4 banger lol.
i will not buy a turbo 6 Ram or ANY non V8 full size truck i got something to prove and i will keep mine going as long as possible unless........
A new Dakoda would be great. mid size trucks got bumped out. why? chevy has the Colorado ford has the Ranger and the Maverick.
truck prices need to come down to realistic numbers across the board for all the manufactures.
i see quite a few guys here that can afford new big $$ trucks and cars. well i can't, i don't have 2 car payments and 600 a month for any vehicle is a stretch for me i have other finical obligation's but i still would like a nice truck. let's not forget the little guy.

there are still 4th gen lovers and they still have decent resale values. the chevy square body ran from 73 to 89 and too 92 for the 2500 and surburban now that's how you make R+D pay off.
ya can't do that now with safety standards emissions and everyone wanting cameras and infotainment improvements. ah i mis the good old days.

My 78’ Ford hi-boy F250 4x with a 390 and 4.10 gears got 8 mpg all day long. Far cry from the 18-20 that both of my 5th gen hemis got.

The 74’ international pickup had a steel dash, no padding. Not likely to be desired today. Same with no fuel injection, points etc. rejetting carbs when you made a big change in elevation wasn't fun either. Oh, and my 77’ GMC 400 gasser had 190 hp. 190… It couldn’t pull my 24’ stick and tin sided travel trailer faster than 40 mph up most any mountain pass.

There’s a middle ground somewhere. No one will go back to the 70’s, I wouldn’t, but these $60K plus trucks are just too expensive. Even $40K is too high for a young tradesman to deal with, he has rent, food etc.

That’s why we need the midsized trucks at cheaper prices, as well as the classic style full sized RAM again. But it will take a complete change of EPA regulations as well as a “re-education” or lowering of comfort standards that people feel are now so much of a “must have”.

Ya just can’t have everything but thats what peeps are demanding and car manufacturers are providing. I don't think the car makers are driving this, its the consumers who are telling the marketing people what they want and the car makers build it. It has worked so far but now its reached its end (affordability wise). Something will have to change/break soon.

I think, you kinda answered your own points, and many of them I agree with.
Trucks are driven by the common Joe now, not just work trucks or tradesman.
I’m mid-management white collar, I’ve had trucks my whole life. For the same reason many of you do.. bigger, safety, ability… and just waiting for friends and family we never knew we had ask us to help them move something

I don’t feel the EPA standards have raised the prices as much as tech and creature comforts we’ve all come to expect.
From remote unlock/passive entry, to backup and now full 360 degree cameras, to early warning/auto brake/pedestrian…
From 1 color simple radio screens to 12 and 14” digital screens AND clusters.

But, as you said, didn’t we all say the same about Disc brakes, POWER disc brakes, Anti Lock brakes, power steering, fuel injection, etc.
Tech today offers us more. It also makes the size of the pie/pool/net that could include failures bigger.
The flip side, often it’s a simple software patch. I say simple… because there’s less tear down…more plug and play.. usually.

Today’s cars are offered with a myriad of options and packages. And we’re only kidding ourselves if we think manufacturers aren’t looking at every analytic of what sells vs what doesn’t, and adjust accordingly.

What you and I care about… doesn’t matter. What does matter, is was several to hundreds of thousands of people want/ask for/care about/PURCHASE. We’re simply .0001% of that sample size.. discussing it with a few thousand folks on some Internet forum.

But simply put.. until we are ready to get less and pay less, they will simply tell us how much more…
