No power to transfer case shifter

Is it “normal” when the tailgate is down to have no power or lights on the tc shifter? I just had a tub in my truck and everything tc isn’t operational, lifted the tub and closed the gate and power was back to the shifter. No indication of current tc setting on the dash when the tailgate is down, either,
