For anyone that's seen my previous posts, it's no news that I've had terrible luck with RAM (2021 big horn). As a brief overview, I've experienced the leaking back window, rack and pinion going out, header bolt snapping, header cracking, bad fuel injector, and a second rack and pinion going out. All of this before 40k miles.

I bounced around the idea of selling the truck because it's had more problems than any vehicle I've ever had, and RAM has been the worst company I've ever contacted for support (including airlines). Well, I'm sitting at around $75k miles and it looks like the camshaft is done for. I've got it at a repair shop now (not a dealership), and I don't have many details, but I'm assuming it's the same problem that a lot of people have. Just updating.

Not sure where I'm going from here. I love the ram boxes, and that's the only reason I went with a RAM (besides I think it's the best looking truck). I use the boxes daily and they're fantastic. But, the truck never making it more than 10k miles without going into the shop of breaking down is too much.

idk if I'm looking for advice, or opinions or what. Just figured I'd update the struggle here. Oddly enough, I can't seem to pull the trigger on another brand, because I love the ram boxes so much. But I can't stand the idea of getting another one of these. A $50-80k truck should be able to go more than 10k miles without needing parts replaced.

You are the minority of owners having that many issues. Buy a different one, and may have better luck

SUCKS TO HEAR I HAVE A 19 AND HAVE HAD PRETTY GOOD LUCK SO FAR (KNOCK ON WOOD) MAYBE TAKING HSKR R/T ADVICE WOULD BE ONE TO CONSIDER

Sorry to hear of your issues. Wishing and hoping for the best for you.

I'm at 36k miles on my '21. I've had a few issues also, but in today's world, I think you'll find all manufacturers are the same. I have a '22 Audi S4 that's in the shop right now. I have nothing but electrical gremlins on that car. If they removed all the electronic nanny features, the mechanicals are good and it'd be a good car.

Regarding the RAM, I also had the leaking rear window. I fixed it myself. I did have the clunk going over bumps that the dealer couldn't replicate. I fixed it myself. The dealer did fix a blown front CV boot/axle, but then created another issue by not tightening the lower control arm bolts. I fixed that myself. My low note horn went out, dealer fixed. I have not confirmed the status of my header bolts as I don't think I have any issues that warrant checking them. All vehicles today have issues of some sort.

In 2018, I bought an F150 4x4. Ford sold over 800k in 2017, so they must be decent, right? I lemon lawed my truck due to so many issues within the first 6 months. But my neighbor has one without issue, as does his neighbor on the other side. Mine was a fluke I guess.

Get another RAM and enjoy the truck. The forums can help resolve issues if the dealer can't.

I had a similar situation, but it was a used 2011 F150. I bought it with around 50K miles and it needed a new engine after about 5K miles. Did that, then it was just one thing after another. Ended up trading it for an '18 F150. I only had that one for 3 years, but never a single problem. Frustrating, especially if you bought it new and know it wasn't abused. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses.

Though in your situation, I wouldn't take a chance on a '25 with the new motor, more likely to have problems. I would try to find a '24 if there are any left that fit your needs. I'm happy with my '23, though at this point with prices, if something happened to it, I'd be tempted to go '18 or earlier and save some money. We seem to be at the point where inflation is making it questionable if a new truck is worth it. All the technology adds more things to go wrong.

Thanks for all the input. And I think ya'll are right that I could end up with a much better truck. My issue is that I don't really consider RAM's bumper to bumper or power train warranty to be worth anything at this point. I had a rack and pinion go out before I hit 1000 miles on the truck. You know who paid for that? I did. They did pay for part of it, but RAM cares, the dealership and Stellantis all agreed that it was a me problem, and I couldn't get them to cover anything. As far as I'm concerned, there is no warranty with RAM. I know everyone will say they don't believe I had to pay for it, or I should have fought more, but I spent months fighting them on a truck that had less than 1000 miles on it. I know ford is having lots of recall issues right now, but as far as I can tell, they actually honor their warranty. Probably going that direction. Thanks again for all the input.

And on my original list, I forgot to mention my tailgate got stuck closed and I had to cut open a tonneau cover to get my work equipment out of the back. I wish my state had a more convenient lemon law.

Is the truck dealer serviced? You may have some luck asking (politely, respectfully, but firmly) for goodwill assistance on the repair. Tell them you would like to stay a Ram customer (even if somewhat BS) but the truck has had a lot of issues and it would be meaningful for factory support on the repair, in terms of keeping you as a customer. The dealer can go to bat for you to get goodwill coverage. Then hopefully that will lower your out of pocket to something bearable. Once fixed, sell the truck at Carmax and get something else. Selling it before it is fixed would either require you to lie to a buyer or sell it for peanuts.

HTH. Good luck.

Sorry for your luck, truly. On my 4th RAM since 2006. Had a few issues.. most of them covered under warranty.
I have to be honest, while I believe you that you paid to have a rack and pinion replaced at 1K miles.. and I didn’t sit in your shoes waiting, fighting, etc., that alone would’ve caused me to sell/trade it in right there.

Unless you dealership/Stallantis has a video of you doing something totally stupid, reckless, and illegal that broke the rack and pinion, that’s a no brainer covered under 3/36…. Crazy.

You went the Ford or GM route, wouldn’t blame you in the least… best of luck!

Sounds like a dealer issue with the rack and pinion. A good dealer will support the customer for warranty repairs. I'm having my passenger side CV axle replaced under powertrain warranty, at 55,000 miles, even though I have a 3/1 lift on the truck. Dealer never even questioned it.

Just so you know, the issue is with your dealer, not the manufacturer. The F150 that I lemon lawed was required to go through arbitration because Ford refused to acknowledge there was a problem. My dealership salesman acknowledged it and then the service manager acknowledged it, but Ford would not authorize repairs to the dealer. The arbitrator went for a drive with me and acknowledged that my concerns were not normal. He asked the Ford engineer questions while we were in arbitration. Their response was "the truck is working as designed". The arbitrator told Ford that "they have a design flaw then" and awarded me full damages.

just hit 10K on my 2024. Hasn't been to the dealer yet, except for FREE wheel alignment. My first Ram so I really don t have much experience with the brand. I do love the truck . 5.7 and I would have passed on the etorque but that was not an option.

How did they deem this a you problem at 1k miles?
I took the truck to the dealership over rack and pinion issues 3 times before my warranty was up. All 3 times they said there was no issue that they could find. After my warranty was past by 500 miles, they magically were able to find it. Every time I went in for the issue I asked them to make note of it, so that when they finally found it, it would be covered. After 500 miles past the warranty they acknowledged that the issue happened the since the day I got the truck. They came back with me saying "RAM won't cover it because the warranty is past". I called BS and contacted the ramcares. Turns out they were correct. While RAM did cover part of it, they did the same thing as the dealership. They acknowledged that I had the issue since the day I got the truck, but they wouldn't cover it.

And saying the problem is with the dealership and not the manufacturer is kind of ridiculous. The manufacturer should honor their warranty. They didn't. If the dealership says they won't cover a warranty issue, then the manufacturer should make them, or penalize them in some way....while directing me to another dealership. They outright told me they wouldn't completely cover an issue that came from the factory. And as an update, yes, the lifters are bad. Roughly 72k miles.
