New rims for the winter, balancing weights hitting the callipers

I recently bought new Bridgestone Blizzak LT 275/70 R18 E with Art Replica rims and pressure sensors, they look identical to the OEM rims but are all black, I installed them last Friday and the rotors on the front wheels hit the weights, peel them right off, they are held with double sided tape, (see the picture) the OEM wheels have the old fashion lead weights, wedged between the rim and the tire bead (see the other picture), most of the weights are on the inside of the rim near the spokes, OEM and aftermarket, those weights are ok it’s the weights place on the other side of the rim that hits the rotor.

Has anybody else come across this issue?

The rotors are bigger on the 5th generation Rams.

I bought the the winter tire assemblies at PMCtire.com, it was the best price, shipped to my door at no extra cost, I explained the situation with the wheels and they will refund me the cost to get them balanced at Canadian Tire. I would recommend ordering from them.

My new 18" winter rims had the low profile weights hit the calipers as well...

Oh wow, I just ordered from them as well and hope the weights aren't going to be an issue. Bought the same ART Replicas but with Hercules Avalanche TT winter tires. Now I'm worried about the wheel weights. Did you get it rebalanced with other weights that don't interfere with the calipers?

I’m going to Canadian Tire this morning to get the wheels balanced, if you look at the second picture posted in my original post you will see the weights location on the OEM wheel compared to the first picture of the weights location on the ART replicas.
I have the Rebel which comes with 18” wheels, that is the smallest wheel to fit the larger rotors of the 5th generation Rams, by looking at your profile picture it appears that you don’t have a Rebel and most likely have the 20” wheels, if you are like me, on my other vehicles, I usually order the smallest winter rims possible, it is cheaper to get winter tires with the smaller diameter. if you did order the 18” Replica rims they will not clear the front callipers, you will have to contact PMC, Marie-Renee Couture at [email protected] she is aware of the situation and hopefully they will make the changes to the weight location for our Rams.
I had ordered my tires, rims and pressure sensors on September 18th and only received them last Friday, the rims were on back order.

Keeping my fingers crossed that they did the proper way for the wheel weights as mine shipped just on Thursday last week. Have a bad feeling they did them just like yours, which means I'll have to drop them off to the dealership to get them rebalanced.

I have the exact same ART rims as the OP and the tire shop had put the same stick-on weights, when I left the shop I heard them hitting the calipers, they removed all 4 wheels and re-balanced the inboard side with old school hammer on weights so future rotating would not be an issue.
BTW the black OEM center caps from a Rebel fit the ART wheels.

Interesting. The low-profile weights on my wheels are adhered close to the face of the wheel (even thought there's plenty of clearance on the 22"s). I would imagine that this could be a workaround for y'all.

Cheers,

This is an awesome forum! Thank you for letting me know that the OEM center caps will fit ART Replica rims.
My truck wheels will be balanced next Friday at Canadian Tire.

Hey Rebelguy2020, was the weights that were rubbing the calipers the one circled in red or the ones that are pointed in blue?

Just got my rims as they have the weights as you can see in the second picture. Haven't had the chance yet to test fit them.

I got the same Rims installed by my local tire shop a week ago and haven't noticed any issues with them. I'm guessing my tire shop knew about the clearance issue. Looks like I'm crawling underneath to take a look.

And yes they look AWESOME with the OEM center caps.

Had to take the to get rebalanced and to have the sticker weights removed to be replaced with the clip on style weights. Definitely a tight fit.

Another options to fix this could have been balancing beads. Glad it’s figured out.
