Hellooooo from South Florida!

Going to pick up a 2025 bighorn so hurricane. Very impressed with the features now available with the bighorn level 2, almost older Laramie level stuff with the used hemis I was looking at.
$45k plus 1k in dealers fees. Couldn’t resist!

My friends give me crap because they think all the luxuries are silly on a truck, but to me it’s a giant road tripping suv that I can drive in comfort in any weather, do light to medium off roading and tow and haul crap as I need to. The regular 1500s ride nicer than my ford, though the ford rides much better than the rebels I tested.

Just have to choose the color and if I want the multifunctional tail gate?

Thoughts on the tail gate and the forged blue color?

They are only available with the 3:55 axle, I was hoping for a 3.92 because those 20 inchers have to go and a set of 18’s an inch or so taller are in the future. (I spend a lot of time off road, medium duty stuff and the ride and traction of a lowered air pressure on 18s really smooths out the rough stuff) Any experience on the taller tires and 3:55s?

Mrs Jupiter insists on the panoramic sun roof and I have come around to wanting one.
Any other features you would opt for??

My 2015 rubicon is hydro blue so I may be swayed that way if I don’t choose the tailgate.

The rest of this is just background so feel free to skip.

Coming from a 2019 f150 xlt 3.5 eb with a ton of mechanical features, 36 gallon tank, trailer knob for backing up a trailer, 3:55s, rear locker, leather, nice different driving modes, manual shifting if desired, etc. Loved the eb and can easily get 650 miles on a tank at 80+ on the highway.
Only 65k miles and paid off. Was going to be my last truck. BUT I have had 3 bcm failures, the last 2 only 10 months apart. Only the dealer can replace them as I need a new security code with each bcm.
Worst case when it fails I have to pull the horn fuse and unhook the battery when I stop (flashers stay on). Last time it just prevented all but the driver door from unlocking electrically. No big deal but that includes the tailgate. My super tough folding tonneau cover requires a sawzall or a sledgehammer and pry bar to get in to.
I know this because we were road tripping home and after a 10 hour day I couldn’t get our luggage out of the bed at the hotel. The Mrs was unimpressed, and neither was I.
They can’t find the problem and though I have had 2 of 3 replaced under warranty I don’t trust the truck as it is our roadtrip vehicle. $1500 charge without warranty.

Really wanted a hemi and looked at many used ones and then saw these new ones for about 5-6k more than the low mileage hemis with decent features. Would rather have the hemi but I am used to the continuous power of a turbo.
The hurricane being an inline six modeled after BMW will be a great motor. I am old enough to remember NA inline sixes in trucks and jeeps!!

Welcome to the forum from one old guy to another. You're likely to get more answers/suggestions than you bargained for, but since you asked I can tell you what things are deal breakers for us. Although most of them would require a higher trim level than the Big Horn. And since I will never buy another Ram with etorque the Hemi is out.

Rambox
Bed utility group
MFT
HUD
Massaging ventilated seats
Adaptive cruise control
Surround view cameras
Blind spot monitoring
Off road group
33 gallon fuel tank

Thanks! The 33 gallon tank for sure. I like all that stuff but too cheap to go up to that level. Doesn’t going to the Laramie get the ho motor also? 89 octane?
Yeah, I had my doubts about the torque also.

Nah, the Laramie gets the SO Hurricane or the Hemi w/etorque. You need to step up to the RHO or higher to get the HO Hurricane.

on my laramie 1500 4x4 ccsb I had the 5.7, 3.92 rear end and the 33 gal. tank and ORG and tow mirrors and trailer brakes and the blind spot warning . some of those things were because I planned to tow a travel trailer. mine came with the 8HP75 trans which had 5.0 1st gear. would easily get up to speed towing our 6000# trailer. I didnt get sunroof but had one on many other vehicles so I would get that if poss. the heated mirrors and seats are nice on ski trips..part of a package. test drove one with adaptive steering and adaptive cruise control..didnt like. the blind spot warning feature was great. when starting out with my 28' trailer connected it would calculate the trailer length after a turn or two and let me know when I had enough clearance to change lanes. my son got the air suspension on his and says it works great when towing his boat. I didnt get that because I have read too many stories about problems with it. I'm not genZ so I get the factory nav. and use it. I disable the voice before I even leave the dealer. I like having a big screen to see my map on when I need to. I am also a Biker so I have just about had enough of being on the road with texters looking at their phone. nice to just glance at a big screen and see my turn coming up. the air conditioned seats are nice to have here in Texas .

Good and bad news. Drove the brand new bighorn with the hurricane.. very disappointed. Not very responsive. I would hope much of that could be some programming as it had 8 miles on it. I am sure it will be great but after driving my 3.5 eb for the last 6 years I was let down by it.
Ended up with a truck I had tested at another dealer close to home.
2022 rebel with 26k miles on it.
Still no match for the eb ,but damn, the luxury of it is something else.
Wasn’t sure about the hud but again I fell in love with it after just a few miles.
Good to be back in a v8. It’s been almost 8 years since I had one.
And the wife gets her panoramic sun roof.
Just have to get some running boards before she gets back from England so she can get into it.

That’s good to know about the adaptions for the trailer. Unfortunately this rebel has everything including the adaptive cruise control which I am not a fan of. It does not have the 33 gallon tank but at least that is something I can add later if I have to.
I was looking forward to the Apple car play but it immediately told me I had to enable Siri on my phone.
I am a tin foil hat guy about some things and devices listening in on you is one of them. Hopefully there is a way around that. On my ford if I used the usb I could mirror my phone without voice control so it was nice seeing the map on the big screen!

Congrats on the Rebel. I test drove a 2025 Big Horn SO a couple months ago and I would have to agree. I wasn’t really impressed with it. It didn’t feel any faster than the 2020 Limited (Hemi) we have now, or the 2014 F150 EB we also own.

As far as adaptive cruise control goes, your Rebel shoud have both adaptive and normal cruise control. We’ve owned three 5th gens and all of them had both.

I bought a 2020 1500 just about a year ago. I was on my way to a CarMax to pick one up and stopped at a closer CarMax to look at one that had adaptive cruise control (absolutely love it). It had the multifunction tailgate and that was a clincher for my wife. It is really nice, and I'm glad that we have it. The tailgate gets used extremely frequently. It had high mileage, but came with all the bells and whistles except the road height change. Also disappointing is that it doesn't make me coffee in the morning.
