new member intro - questions and seeking suggestions!

Hey all, new member and first post here though I've lurked on you guys for a bit. Wanted to intro myself and bounce some questions/ideas off everyone. I've been in the market for a truck and for a while it was a toss up between the previous gen 1500 (Longhorn or Limited) and the 15+ F150 platinum with the slight edge going to the F150 due to the redesign in 2015 which led to a lot of the technology upgrades (my emotions always wanted the Ram, my logic not so much - I'm a mopar guy at heart). Well, fast forward to present day and FCA has really knocked it out of the ballpark with the new 1500 - it has everything I'm looking for in a truck and then some and seems to also have really made an impression on all the automotive journalists out there...though I am aware of the dreaded A/C issue.

My situation: I've been told I can be a bit stubborn in that I know what I want and am unwilling to compromise (for the most part) and I'm always seeking the best, rock bottom deal I can find. That said, I'm looking for a short bed 1500 Limited 4x4 w/standard HEMI (no etorque), off-road group, level 1 pkg and pano roof in either black/white/silver/grey exterior and indigo/light frost interior. Needless to say, this combination is proving difficult to find on dealer lots (esp the off-road group) and I'm hesitant to do a factory order because it could limit my negotiating ability. If going the new route I would prefer to lease.

On the flip side, I've checked the slightly used market and literally found 1 match located about ~500 miles from me at an FCA dealer in Michigan (I'm in metro DC). It checks every box and has ~17k miles on it priced at $48k; roughly 19-20k off the original MSRP. Normally I wouldn't even consider this type of scenario but the fact that factory warranty is still in place gives me peace of mind. Based on research I've done it seems to be priced very competitively. Here's the VIN for anyone curious: 1C6SRFHT0KN682309.

Those of you w/experience do you think I might be able to bring them down some more? Would love to try and hit that $45k mark or even below. The carfax is clean and based on the report the truck has been on the lot for 2 going on 3 weeks (7/10). I would be arranging my own financing. Finally, besides the A/C issue, any other red flags I should look for? Again, the remaining factory warranty has me less concerned than I normally would be.

Considering the deals you can get on new, especially the deals in June (not sure what they are currently), that isn’t a compelling enough deal for me. Plus I would always question why someone would trade a truck so new, could be fine but could also be a red flag. I guess it comes down to what do you value more, a truck at an awesome price that has most of what you want or a truck priced higher that has all of what you want. I fall into the first category.

I think they were about 28% off msrp but maybe someone here who bought/shopped in June can weigh in. I’m sure the “price negotiated from msrp” thread will discuss it and have great info for you. Last few pages will have most recent info.
 
I would say that you should buy new and there should be enough selection on dealer lots to find what you want. Check this website which is about an hour north of you in my hometown. They seem to have some trucks that might fit the bill. Up here in PA they seem to stock more choices since we buy more trucks up here than they do down in DC area.
