Hi guys. I'm just about ready to order a new Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4X2 5'7" Box. I have a few more decisions to make before I pull the trigger, the biggest being the engine choice. I am leaning toward the 3.6l V6. I want to make sure it has enough power to pull 2,000 lb travel trailer occasionally. I gotta think it would, but I want to make sure. The dealers out here are just starting to get V6 trucks on their lots and have not been very helpful.

Welcome. The V6 should have no problem towing a travel trailer that weighs 2000lbs.

GVWR is 6900 and GCWR is 11900 with 3.21 and 12900 with 3.55 and 3.92.

So depending on payload and such you should be able to go up to a 7000lb trailer...but there are lots of variables that change this number.

Be sure to check out our towing section. Lots of info there.

Thanks for joining us

The V6 will be plenty to pull that weight. I have the standard V6 Pentastar with 3.55 gears in my 2014 Outdoorsman right now. I pull my Seadoo(around 1500lbs) around all summer. There are plenty of times I am looking in the rear view mirror thinking I lost it cause I can't even feel it back there.;)
Mines rated for 7160lb trailer.

Of the three final-drive ratios you mentioned (3.21:1, 3.55:1, 3.92:1), which one would you recommend?

Which dealership(s) are you considering in SoCal?

Well, I am not sure which I would recommend, but if it was me, I would go 3.55
