Appreciate the opportunity to ask some questions about this new to me Ram 1500 Laramie. I have never owned a ram truck and always been a GMC guy... still am but could absolutely not afford the AT4 I wanted unfortunately. I have ended up with a 21 Ram Laramie with 14.5 on when I purchased it a little over a week ago. Has 15 on it now and so far has been good. My starter questions are this short and sweet.

How durable are these trucks truly? The salesman being what he is of course tried to hype it up for the sale. Again always been a GMC guy they have always proved to be extremely reliable for me with little to no issues but I could not deny after driving the ram for a day that I very much enjoyed the driving experience in this truck. My trucks are typically pavement princesses that see some light to medium-light towing on a few occasions but other than that a daily driver. Heaviest I might pull would be my parents Quad CF Moto thing for them when they need to trailer it, other than that it would be pulling a very small trailer and furniture or light landscaping things around for the house since I have some projects going. I was upside down on my previous vehicle... the dealer did cover that gap but refused to budge on their asking which was overprice so they basically just shifted the profit from the trade in to the vehicle price leaving me a little upside down even with the new truck so I am hoping this truck lasts a long time.

Last question because I did this literally last night as I am getting used to the turn knob shifter still. How durable is that thing?? Has anyone reported breaking one? I only ask because I had a very late night on the job was mentally fatigued after my 36 hour shift and remote started the truck... hopped in... and of course tried to immediately put it in drive WITHOUT actually starting the vehicle. I tried to turn the dial twice once gently and once SLIGHTLY more firm and slowly (which of course did not work ) before my mind caught the issue and I corrected the issue and everything was fine. I am definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed especially when I am that tired but could this cause an issue and how prone are those to me being dumb again because it probably will happen... =-(

The trucks can last for a long time. I had a Dodge Dakota for 17 years with 250,000 miles on it and never had an issue with the drive train. Lots and lots of Rams still around.

For the shifter, it is pretty durable. Never seen an issue with it. I've never heard of anyone breaking it off.

I came from always buying Chevy and had a Silverado...I am on my second Ram. Absolutely no regrets and no concerns. Now I do have etorque for the first time so that remains to be see...but if I ever went back to Chevy/GMC I would now be concerned with reliability. Just spent 3 hours washing this truck....love it!

it will for sure be more reliable than a GM.
And more comfortable.
And more luxurious.
And better looking.

You'll be fine.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations . You’ll get used to the shifter and all the extra storage that comes along with it .

Welcome! My Bighorn has been awesome except for my Visors. Both broke. It's not uncommon. Lots of info on here to keep her going for a long time. Great truck. Great forum. Great info. Great people. Enjoy! Especially the oil threads and the Hemi tick threads :)

I'll point you in the right direction.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for me
Biotech Lubegard with every oil change
Filters will vary
Ran 5w20 year round til 54K now running 5w30 year round
Truck resides in FL

Once you get used to the shifter, you won't want anything else. I wish they would make a GT without a console shifter.

Welcome from South East Arizona. I've had my 21 Big Horn since September and absolutely love it. I'm finally starting to get used to the dial shifter myself. Good luck with your truck.

After having a couple with it, I found it harder to get used to not having it in other vehicles. I always grab for the dash.

Yeah, I drove my wife's 2018 JLU the other day and reached for the dash myself. I sure like all the room my truck has in the center console because of the dial shifter.
